Tonight, the Amoskeag Reserve Engine Company held its Annual Banquet and Awards dinner. We had an amazing turn out with members and guests from NH, ME, MA and VT.

We would like to thank Brian Anderson Jr, our SPAAMFAA District Trustee for attending this evening as well as Maine Chapter President, Mike Tremblay for attending.

An amazing presentation was on the 1960 Chelmsford Shoe Fire in Derry, NH. The presenters were Randy Chase, DFD Retired, David Hoffman, DFD Retired, and DFD Lieutenant Stephen Finn. It was an interactive presentation with actual video of this devastating fire, slide show and incredible insight on the history of this historic fire. We cannot thank them enough.

Former Past President, Director Paul Sanborn was recognized: “For your relentless effort into making the Amoskeag Reserve engine company what it is. Thank you for your years of service and dedication to our chapter.”

Current and out going AREC Vice President John Schlemmer was recognized: “For your relentless effort into making the Amoskeag Reserve engine company what it is. Thank you for your years of service and dedication to our chapter.”

AREC Member Robert Mulholland received the 2023 Community Service Award. Rob is one of, if not our most active member with his fire trucks. Some of what Rob has done over the 2023 Show Season is doing countless Touch-Truck events, Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce Christmas Toy Drive Fill A Fire Truck, Wright museum for 9-11, Summer camps and Wolfeboro Summer School Program for the Special Needs children.

AREC Member James Topham received the 2023 AREC Member of The Year Award. Jim was recognized for his work with our social media platforms to include the website, he is the editor of the AREC Newsletter “The Amoskeag Steamer”. He works very closely with the AREC Board of Directors and the membership.

It was an amazing event and a good time was had by all.

Some exciting news about our Banquet and Awards Dinner.

We are pleased to announce that the AREC Banquet will include a presentation on the Chelmsford Shoe Fire in Derry, NH. The presenters will be Randy Chase, DFD Retired, David Hoffman, DFD Retired, and DFD Lieutenant Stephen Finn.

This should be a very engaging presentation, and we are very excited to have them come.

This year we are doing something a bit different. We are going to be presenting awards to AREC members. We want to recognize the membership and what some of you do to represent our chapter and those of you that go above and beyond so to speak. This is about the people and not the apparatus. A night of family, friends, and fellowship.

So please join us:

Sunday, November 12th 2:00 PM
Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant
233 Daniel Webster Hwy,
Meredith, NH 03253

Reservations not required, but helpful for head count. So please take a moment and let us know if you will be attending and how many. Email Paul at: [email protected]

The person who was going to sell the 50/50 tickets at our show is not able to now. If you are an AREC member and willing to do this please respond to me. We also have no one who has stepped up to staff our “tent”. And finally, if you think/plan to bring a truck , let us know

For all intents and purposes Saturday in Wells Maine is canceled. Wells Maine Fire Chief is still going to have their open house but based on the forecast for heavy rain will not be having trucks there. It's just been that type of year for us.

He appreciates everyone that was going to attend and wants us to know that he wants this to be an annual event and is looking forward to having it next year. We look forward to helping them with their event next year and attending.

If you are in the area and want to stop in for their open house please do so.

There will be another email later today for updates and events.

Reminder.....
Our annual banquet has been scheduled for Sunday November 13th @ 2 PM. It will be held at Hart’s Turkey Farm Restaurant on Daniel Webster Highway in Meredith, NH. You will note that this is an early afternoon event, as decided by those in attendance at one of our earlier meetings, to assist those with a longer drive. You will be able to order your choice of meal from the menu. Though not required, I would ask that if you know, or are pretty sure you are coming, to send me a RSVP, just to assist with planning. Folks are welcome to come at last minute as we should have sufficient room. Members, spouses and guests are all welcome to attend.

"See You At Harts!"

𝐀 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤 will be on Display this year. This is not your typical consumer bought RC vehicle. This is a something totally different.

Built by John Uitts a Staff Instructor for the NH Fire Academy, constructed this RC Ladder Truck over a period of about 4 years. It is fully functional without any safety interlocks and is sitting on a table that can be tilted to replicate road grades. The table also has scales under the stabilizers to be able to show how the weight distribution changes as you set the truck in various positions. Ladder trucks are one of the most understood units in the fire service and this model enables us able to show some of the pitfalls that one may inadvertently get themselves in to. They have used it in several ladder operation classes and have found it received great reviews as to providing a good base to transfer to operate the real thing.

Some of the parts used in its construction are designed for RC vehicles and come from several countries. Many others were just hand made as there was no commercial part available. It uses biodegradable oil in its mini hydraulic system at a pressure of about 250 #. Some of the hydraulic cylinders are from a company in Spain, that makes RC construction equipment, while I others like the lift cylinders and turntable swivel fittings had to be made. Lift cables are clock weight parts. Jon had to make several tools in order to make some of the parts.
