The RMS Queen Elizabeth had several links to Alfred Hitchcock:

March 1948 - Sailed to England to complete pre-production on Under Capricorn.

April 1949 - sailed with writer Whitfield Cook to England to begin production on Stage Fright. They arrived at Southampton on May 3rd.

June 1955 - Travelled to England to begin a research trip for Flamingo Feather, arriving at Southampton on June 18th. On their return journey they were joined by Hitchcock's sister Nellie, departing from Southampton on July 26th and arriving at New York on August 1st. Also, aboard for the return journey were Herbert Coleman and C.O. "Doc" Erickson.

This is the coolest little booklet given out onboard while the Queen Elizabeth was in service.

Here are just a few pages to share. We like how it gives some details on other Cunard ships and what they each offered!

Priceless 👍🚢

On Sunday 9th January 1972, three fires started simultaneously on board. All these quickly spread, fanned carried by the ample supply of air coming into the ship through the open shell doors. It was an hour before fire fighting tugs arrived at the scene, and after four hours of futile effort the liner was left to burn herself out. By midnight on 9th January the fire had burnt through five decks and the SEAWISE UNIVERSITY had developed a starboard list of 17 degrees, the start of a slow and unstoppable capsize.

A promotional pre-war photo of the first class, (called cabin class pre-war) Squash Court also showing the observation platform above. The playing court was on Sun Deck amidship and the observation platform overlooked it on the Sports Deck above.

After the war, the first class gymnasium was moved into the Squash Court and the original first class gymnasium became the engineering officers wardroom.

This was an upgrade to the engineering officers accomodations but a downgrade of the first class passenger accommodations on the Queen Mary. The Queen Mary was no longer the flagship of the Cunard Line. The Queen Elizabeth which was the flagship of the Cunard Line had both a Squash Court and a separate gymnasiumin for first class passengers.

Note: The radio and telcommunications exhibit is now housed in the closed over upper portion of the Squash Court on Sports Deck while the Long Beach created "short wave radio station" is housed in a portion of the oservation platform also on Sports Deck.

The crew at QMI Restore the Queen was onsite today with fellow board member, Robin Jacobs of Fogbank Industrial in Torrance California.

Working in collaboration with the owners of the RMS Queen Elizabeth artifacts, QMI’s team performed an evaluation to determine viability of restoration.

The conversation between QMI and the various owners of the artifacts began in late 2013.

It’s fortunate that the current owners understand the significance of preserving these items.

Look for updates in weeks to
