Have you seen our Nudes & Blooms exhibition yet? This group show blends botanicals with portrayals of the n**e human form. Nudity is a pillar of art history, especially q***r art. Social platforms, however, create increasingly strict community standards that inhibit artistic expression. By blending nudity with a theme as innocuous as flowers, we contribute to the normalization of the human form. Our bodies are natural and are worthy of public consumption.

Spotlight on artist El Dibujo

Daniel José Cabrera Castro, also known as, El Dibujo, is an artist from Spain, in the province of Murcia. El Dibujo grew up around the fishing tradition, and the romanticism inspired by the sea. Being around the sea has inspired a sense of contemplation in his work, but is especially noticeable in his paintings of mermen.

El Dibujo’s work largely revolves around the male figure. Even in his renderings of sexual themes, a sense of sentimentality and sweetness exists in his work. El Dibujo’s work does not shy away from sexual themes but never crosses a line into explicit. His drawings of lovers portray a sense of intimacy.

Creating beauty out of discomfort is a pillar of El Dibujo’s work.

Vaquero - glitter on satin, yarn - 24”x48” - NFS - another one of Moises Salazar Tlatenchi’s glitter compositions. Between the glitter, the outfit, the nails, and the color palette, this piece interrogates the idea of gender and masculinity.

Spotlight on Matthew Robins: Matthew Robins is a multi-disciplinary artist and musician from the West Country (UK) whose work encompasses drawing, film, writing, music, puppetry, sculpture, and performance. An all-around creative type.

Matthew explores masculine forms through visual art. His gouache paintings range from quick impressions of his models, to more detailed, highly saturated, and playful renderings that accommodate for body hair, the texture of fabric, and other intimate surface details. For many q***r artists, including Matthew, portraying the human form in visual art is an expression of sexuality that was often forbidden to them growing up. Spotlight on visual artist, Moises Salazar Tlatenchi (they/them).

Tlatenchi uses accessible materials in their work, including yarn, glitter, and paper mache. On the surface these materials seem innocent and approachable, and offer a sense of familiarity, as we’ve used many of these materials as children. The cosmetic appearance of Tlatenchi’s work juxtaposes with the deeper messages they communicate.

Tlatenchi was raised in Chicago, born of immigrant parents. Tlatenchi explores the inherent criminality imposed upon and violence perpetuated on these vulnerable communities, as well as how their q***rness intersects with their lineage. By exploring these serious topics with media that is colorful, fun, and approachable, Tlatenchi offers a vehicle to celebrate the majesty of cultural heritage contrasted with challenges of living safely in the united states as a member of the immigrant and q***r communities.
