Remembering Troy’s Johnny Blackwell!

Troy’s Greatest Generation -John Blackwell of Troy

This is part of the WWII Honor Board exhibition at the historical society in Troy.
This is the surrender of 42,000 Japanese soldiers signed aboard the USS Amick.

John Blackwell was aboard the Amick and witnessed the signing.
We believe he is in this picture off the wardroom during the signing.

Nearly 600 of Troy’s Greatest Generation on exhibit until July 4th from 11 am to 4pm everyday except Mondays.

The steps are crumbling after 105 years.

The bandstand is falling into disrepair, a committee made up of town organizations is planning to save the structure from the ravages of time.
The Rotary, Lions, Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and VFW are working together, with the Boro of Troy, to fundraise and implement improvements for the Bandstands 2nd century of service to our town.
