Thanks to all who attended yesterday’s event in Coe Park 🇺🇸🔔 We were treated to a wonderful dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence by local students, a performance by the St. Peter’s Drum Corps, a discussion on Torrington’s role in the Revolutionary War, and delicious refreshments.

Hearing the hopes of our the founding fathers for a healthy democracy, free of tyranny and representative of all citizens was empowering 💜 Democracy is not a spectator sport!

“Go where the silence is, and say something” — Amy Goodman

Last night members of our league visited Bantam Cinema for a showing of Steal This Story, Please! a documentary detailing the life and work of Amy Goodman, and the landscape of journalism today 💜

You might recognize Amy from her work as host of Democracy Now! or from her 30+ year career of fierce and determined independent journalism. We were moved by the documentary and its urgency, and reminded how important a free and fair press is to any healthy democracy 🇺🇸
