Happy anniversary, Thomasville! 🌹🎉
On this day 200 years ago, the Thomas County Board of Commissioners purchased the 490 acres of Lot of Land 39 of the 13th District of originally Irwin, now Thomas County, for use as a county seat. Since that day, it has been known as Thomasville.
The land was purchased from Pebble Hill Plantation owner Thomas Jefferson Johnson, who had acquired it from the original owner, Ziba Fletcher of Baldwin County, only weeks earlier for $200.
Two centuries later, we’re grateful for the decision that helped shape the community we know today. Congratulations to Thomasville on 200 years of history, growth, and hometown pride — and credit to T.J. Johnson for helping seal the deal (with a cool $10 profit to show for it). 😎
