Kelly Elmore represented the museum at the 78th Annual Alabama Historical Association meeting in Fairhope, Alabama, this weekend. She connected with fellow historians, museum directors, and curators while enjoying fascinating presentations on Alabama history, including a talk by author Sonny Brewer. Her favorite part of the weekend was hearing stories about Kathryn from those who knew her personally and witnessing the deep love and appreciation people continue to have for Kathryn’s stories.

First published in 1977, "Thirteen Tennessee Ghosts and Jeffrey" features fantastic artwork. The original cover by Karl Scott sets a playfully spooky tone, while Lecia Brogdon’s illustrations bring each tale to life. Jeffrey appears beside all thirteen stories, on the back cover, and even perched atop a map of Tennessee in the opening pages. This book remains a delightfully fun collection of folktales and ghost stories.

Did you know the museum is home to two artworks by Alabama folk artist Charlie “Tin Man” Lucas? In addition to his metal sculpture honoring Kathryn Tucker Windham, we also display his piece “Red Tricycle.” When viewed together, these works highlight Lucas’s remarkable eye for detail — from the Kodak camera and Jeffrey’s face on the back of the Windham sculpture to the thoughtful use of green fabric in “Red Tricycle.” Each element reflects his storytelling spirit and inventive creativity.
