The Universal Hip Hop Museum is dedicated to the preservation, education and celebration of Hip Hop Culture's rich history and legacy. The museum primary objective is to tell a complete story of Hip Hop Culture beginning with the many musical influences that began in the African tribal communities, beginning with the early 1920's jazz scat songs and following with early soul artists of the 1950's & 1960's and then onto the birth of Hip Hop and continuing on to today's expanding culture. The complete historical timeline of Hip Hop culture from the early influences all the way through to today's global transformation of the culture will be featured by use latest advances in new technology to exclusive exhibits that won't be seen anywhere else. The museum will advance the growth and global understanding of Hip Hop Culture from its vast library of researched and acquired content from music, poetry, film, dance, television, art, dancing and theater. The Universal Hip Hop Museum will open in 2022 and is now accepting resumes and donations.

This has been a very special year for the Universal Hip Hop Museum and Hip Hop culture despite the horrible devastation caused by the pandemic. In April, the UHHM and Mass Appeal produced Hip Hop Loves NY to support the city’s frontline workers, and in May, we teamed up with Video Music Box to produce a show to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Last Poets album and salute the founding members. Two months later in July, we teamed up with the USPS to release the Hip Hop Forever Stamps and in September we produced the Hip Hop 4 Peace show in collaboration with the United Nations to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the International Day of Peace featuring a 75 piece international orchestra. In November, we re-opened the [R]Evolution of Hip Hop Exhibit at the Bronx Terminal Market and in just a few weeks construction of Hip Hop’s future home at the Bronx Point will begin. Wait there’s more, the sport of Break Dancing was officially added to the Olympics in 2024! Thank you to all of our social media friends and supporters. #universalhiphopmuseum

It’s that time of year, Giving Tuesday is next week (December 1, 2020) and I am asking all friends, colleagues and family members to support the museum’s next phase of construction and development with a donation of any amount (large or small). Next month, construction of the museum’s future home at the Bronx Point - New York City’s largest mixed-use development project is set to begin. This will be a monumental occasion for Hip Hop Culture. A major museum founded and managed by people of color.
Just knowing that the Universal Hip Hop Museum will be a global destination for people of all races, ethnicities and social status to see and experience Hip Hop history in the borough where it all began, is a dream come true.
Getting the museum to this point was no easy task and the start of construction is just the beginning. The next phase requires staffing, exhibit design & fabrication and build out of the museum’s innovative infrastructure. The Universal Hip Hop Museum will be the first smart museum in the world built during a global pandemic. This is not an easy undertaking. But Hip Hop has always been resilient and extremely capable of busting through obstacles of adversity.
We have garnered the support of both New York City, New York State and hundreds of early donors and now we are asking for yours. Together we will build the world’s greatest museum, to document, archive, preserve and celebrate Hip Hop’s rich history and culture.
