Historic Richmond Town's Artist-in-Residence installation by Chris O'Brien, "Strange Visions in the Barger Privy" will be open for viewing all three days of the Richmond County Fair!

Inspired by civic groups of the 19th and 20th centuries, who found community with common cause or interest, O'Brien's work re-imagines Staten Island's past, as narrated by a fictitious group, the Richmond County Field Recording Society, dedicated to chronicling the paranormal and unexplained phenomena of the borough.

Within the privy, a historic outhouse moved to the site in the 1980s, a collection of original artworks and found objects constitute the archive left behind that was 'discovered' by O'Brien. The installation invites one to explore the myths and legends within, and to ponder the gulf between history and folklore.

Since 1300 BC, Blacksmithing has been practiced by humans, forging and tempering iron into tools, weapons, and other implements. Early American towns and villages often had blacksmiths, even on Staten Island.

At this weekend's annual Richmond County Fair, you can see Historic Richmond Town's blacksmith in person next to the Guyon-Lake-Tysen House. See our master Blacksmith Jeff and apprentices work on projects over the heat of the forge.

The 2021 Richmond County Fair is 1 WEEK AWAY! Time to check the weather and save some $ by purchasing your TICKETS ONLINE IN ADVANCE! There's so much to see and do at this year's fair, and Living History is taking center stage!

Historic Richmond Town is delighted to showcase a new historic trade at this year's Richmond County Fair: Broom Making. Brooms have been made for centuries, but were greatly improved in the 19th century United States with the invention of broom making machines in New England. Broom corn is harvested, soaked in water, and attached to a handle by a simple machine. Brooms are an essential tool in our homes today; and seeing how they were made in the 19th century tells us about how Americans cleaned their homes and workspaces. Come see broom making at the General Store porch all three days of the Richmond County Fair.

At this year's Richmond County Fair, living history trades will be on full display. Any event in the village would be incomplete without Tinsmithing. In the 19th century, tin goods were a staple: lighting devices, cooking tools and implements, and other household items were often made of tin plate. The tinsmithing area will be open all three days of the Richmond County Fair.

Ever wonder what life was like on Staten Island 500 years ago? This SATURDAY, August 14, at 12:30pm at the Christopher House, Historic Richmond Town is delighted to welcome living historian Drew Shuptar-Rayvis, who will present a special program on native life in the Northeast region.

History driven | Future focused

As Staten Island's largest and oldest cultural institution, Historic Richmond Town possesses some of the most celebrated and storied historical items of American history. There are more than 130,000 artifacts, photographs, and archival collections dating back to the 17th century. The total number of individual objects or bits and pieces of history in our care is close to a million! At the center of our collections are original historic structures dating back as far as the 1660s.

There is no other place like it in New York City. While many museums use structures to showcase their artifacts, our structures are among our most significant artifacts. This provides an authentic platform to share the stories of individuals - ordinary people who've built an extraordinary country.

Can someone please reach out to me about tickets I purchased for uncorked. I paid and never received an email confirmation with my tickets. Sent Several emails each one with an automatic response telling me to email another person. I have called and left several messages no call back this is beyond ridiculous.
Does anybody remember the name of the restaurant in Richmond Town that went out of business circa 1999?
My wife and I made this silly video yesterday and thought you guys might like to see it. We don't monetize. Please enjoy.
My wife and I made this video today in the beautiful weather. Hope you enjoy!
Richmondtown stories has been a part of many of my shows around the country and blog. My first job was at a florist in Richmondtown that had several greenhouses. I loved working there in the early 70's. Anyone remember the name of it? It was on Arthur Kill road. Here is my blog where Richmondtown is mentioned...

I agree Old Richmond town is a a very interesting place
Are u keeping the ice rink open all winter?!?! I’d love to go.
This past Saturday's event was despicable I paid $20 for my husband And order to get and for there to be only 7 or 8 houses that gave out one piece of candy each they were giving out butterscotch hard candies I mean come on these Are little kids but Richmond town made sure that there was plenty of vendors that cost extra money to be there. If you're gonna give one piece of candy per house at least give a name brand candy not a bag of dollar store candy where you're giving out 1 piece each charging $10 per kid absolutely despicable
The website is down. Do you know when it will be back up? Thanks
