Beautiful Mistakes Enabling Art

09/21/2020

It's been a long while since there was much activity here; but if you're interested in catching up on my new project, here's a link to RTFB - a book club/movie review podcast I've been doing with some friends for a little over a year now. At the moment, we're reading Casino Royale by Ian Fleming, but our back catalogue includes: 2001, Planet of the Apes, Silence of the Lambs, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Dr Sleep / The Shining, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. We'd love it if you gave us a listen. Cheers

A book club and movie review podcast covering some of the most well regarded book to movie adaptations.

New short film from an alum of the Beautiful Mistakes film fest. From his post: "... in the process making Stay Home, a film in which I was the sole cast member (with voice by Carla Ayala) and crew, this became much more than a first time film. With the development of COVID19 in America developing in real-time, it became important for me to not just be a character that happens to be black but to provide context to what that means in the narrative of this pandemic mesh with the black experience."

Ready to watch on Facebook.com/arowefilms or youtube.com/arowefilms. It would mean a lot to me if you all hit the like buttons and share it with your friends. Help me get this to an audience. Part …

This will be a long post, so please take a second to expand for details on: 1) Raising money for Dallas police & firefighters' families affected by last night's shooting, 2) Raising money for your own charity, 3) Our free giveaway of MLB merch, 4) Our raffle for 2 tickets to our Rangers Party Suite, and 5) updates about an additional tax write off for buying a ticket.

1) Our hearts and minds are with all those affected by the tragic events the last few days. In light of the shooting in Dallas, we will be dedicating a portion of the proceeds from our Night at the Ballpark to a local charity (The RMS Listener Foundation - http://kegl.iheart.com/articles/rms-listener-foundation-459720/help-families-of-fallen-dfw-police-10197389/), which is dedicated to supporting the families of fallen Dallas Police Officers and Fire Fighters. Enter the special code 4DAL during checkout (or send an email to [email protected] with your name and the code) when you make a purchase related to our event and we'll donate $10 for a full ticket and $2 for each raffle ticket sold. Or, you can skip the middle man and make a donation directly to them, which would be just fine.

2) Similarly, if you are currently raising money for a charity cause, send us a direct message including a link to your fund raising page and we will set up a unique code for you and/or your friends to use as well. We'll make the same contribution as specified above for each sale with your unique code shortly after the event.

3) Help us spread the word and you'll automatically be entered in our drawing(s) to give away some nice Rangers merchandise (or another team of your choosing). Share this post on your Facebook feed and you'll be included in the selection - we'll do at least one give away, more if there is enough response.

4) Speaking of give aways, we are just a week away from our raffle which will award 2 suite tickets and a parking pass to the winner(s). A single raffle ticket is just $5 and could get you and a friend in to enjoy our party suite with food and drinks included … it'd almost be like getting it all for free! You can also net 5 raffle tickets for $20 if you want to up your chances of winning. Raffle tickets will be on sale until 7/15 and the drawing will be held 7/16 so time is becoming short if you want in.

5) Our final point requires a just bit of clarification, so bare with us for a second. When we first priced this event out, we backed in to the individual ticket prices based on our total costs, which included the suite tickets, parking passes, and catering options. When our suite tickets arrived last week, we noticed that the tickets' face value was only $30, as they weren't factoring in the other costs, just the actual seats. SO, what that means for anyone who buys/bought a full-price suite ticket @ $80 is that you will now be able to claim the $50 difference as a tax write off!

Ok, that was a lot of info all in one post. Thank you if you took the time to read all the way thru. We're really excited about the event and hope you can help us make it our biggest one ever!

So, I promise not to spam these Humble Bundle links now that we are a selectable charity in these bundles that let you choose your own -- this offering piqued my interest though, so thought it was worth sharing.

Of these games, I've only played Mini Metro (which I recommend), but looking forward to finally trying the Boy and His Blob remake and Evoland 2.

(side note: I can't use my steam code for Shantae, so let me know if you'd like it)

Pay what you want for graphically glorious games and support charity!

We are excited to announce that we are now a selectable 'Choose Your Own Charity' selection at Humble Bundle. So, if you were considering getting one of the current comic bundles (and were so inclined), we'd be honored if you'd send a little love our way.

Even if you weren't so inclined, you should check out Humble Bundle anyway -- a great way to support great charities while snagging yourself a great selection of goodies!

Pay what you want for Buffy, Angel, & Spike and support a charity of your choice!

Another "save the date" to mark in your calendar: 5/21/16 when we will host a "classic" video game tournament here in Plano. More details to come -- but tourney winners can expect to take home nice bundles of systems+games from my own collection.

Got to view this exhibit last night - very interesting collection of etchings depicting scenes from the old testament by an artist with a fascinating life story. Free admission, so I would encourage anyone with interest to stop by and check it out.
