The Western New York Civil War Society

The Western New York Civil War Society We are an Civil War discussion group, a type of Civil War Round Table of sorts - who gathers together to discuss various topics regarding the American Civil War era.

We meet on the last Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Lucy Bensley Center at 23 North Buffalo Street in Springville, NY

This Thursday on The Tattooed Historian site at 700 pm will be an excellent talk on Civil War Cruelty.

there will bea memorial service at Forest Lawn cemetery, to honor those Civil War veterans resting there. The Sons of Union Veterans, Chaplain PG Cook camp 223 will be hosting there annual Memorial day service, Sunday afteernoon, promptly at 1 pm at the GAR plot by the Delavan St & Main gate.....

Wednesday night May 10, 2017, at the Lucy Bensley Center (23 North Buffalo Street in Springville) at 7pm, will be a presentation by Michael T Keene regarding his book ... The Holly Boys ..... the untold story of the Holly Boys by a Vietnam Veteran and a must read for all veterans and family members. There will be books available for purchase and autograph by author. Our 1st presentation for 2017 will be on Wednesday February 22nd at 7 PM at the Lucy Bensley Center in Springville.

"Interesting Anecdotes and Facts of the Civil War" - this interesting program will be giving by Tom Place

“We invite the public to come down and learn some interesting facts and trivia — some serious and some fun — tied in with personal anecdotes from the ones who lived it".

"Stop down and learn something you didn’t pick up in your
high school history book.”

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Donations will be accepted for the Civil War Preservation Trust.

Light refreshments will be served.

Just a side note......
This lecture on November 30th is our last presentation for 2016

There are no presentations for the Western NY Civil War Society in December due the the Christmas Holiday

We will resume our presentations in January 2017......


The Western New York Civil War Society, in conjunction with Echoes Through Time Civil War Museum and the Lucy Bensley Center, will host a presentation on Nov. 30 on the history of the G.A.R. in Western New York.

This months speaker will be Derek Otto of Springville. Derek does genealogy research for the Lucy Bensley Center, will conduct a PowerPoint presentation about the G.A.R., also known as the Grand Army of the Republic and a precursor to the American Legion.

The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday November 30th at the Lucy Bensley Center in Springville

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. Donations will be accepted for the Civil War Preservation Trust. Light refreshments will be served.

The Lucy Bensley Center is located at 23 N. Buffalo St. in Springville.

This service will starty sharply at 11 am at the GAR plot (the Civil War section & GAR Civil War monument) near Main & Delavan gate

We are LOOKING for volunteers......
Anyone interested in Coming down to Gettyysburg, PA on May 21st to assist us in our annual Spring Cleanup of our Adopted Monuments ?

Meet us at the 154th NY Monument on Coster Ave on May 21st at 10 am.....We will also be cleaning up around the 94th NY monument and the area behind the Virginia State memorial at Cobbs Legion marker....

Bring some work gloves....We will provide the rest....
We will be picking up any debris, branches, racking, and laying down some grass seed, bagging up any trash....

This should take us a few hours or 3/4 hours pending on our help

Any assistance is appreciated.

Afterwards, we'll grab some lunch and visit a few sites at the battlefield
