The Root Historical Society is seeking a place to store some of our items that are currently being stored in the old town barn. The roof is starting to collapse and the town is making arrangements to have the building torn down. Right now we have an old threshing machine, cutter/sleigh, buckboard, four large church chairs and some other small items. Anyone willing to help can contact us on this site. Thank You in advance.

All in the Root Historical & Museum! Plus much, much more! Come check us out!

Hi, I am looking for information on "Ellen Delia Carroll" who married Martin Gessinger (Spelling?) in 1914 at St Cecelia's in Fonda NY. They then resided with his children in Root, NY on his farm. Anything I can find on her would be appreciated. Thank You, Sharon Tallmadge [email protected]
Is this page dedicated to the town of Root only or does it cover Montgomery county? I am trying to find info on an ancestor that supposedly came from Montgomery County and I'm trying to learn who his parents were.
I think possibly you have been hacked? I am so sorry if you have! The posts that have nothing to do with history should be reported by everyone.
The Davis family from Roots is my line . I believe they were farmers I would be interested in any information of them. Adam was my2nd g grandfather his son Daniel was my 1st G grandfather his son Charles was my grandfather.

I like that there is a society who care's enough to preserve history
Please send info re Roots to [email protected] Thank you...
To All at RHS, This photograph from c1898 is of my great great great grandparents Hannah Eliza Kilmartin (Scott) (1816-1916) and Elias Scott (1817-1903). Hannah was a daughter of Michael Kilmartin (1778-1845) a former resident of Root. Michael Kilmartin lived in Root from 1825 until his death in 1846. This photograph was taken in Racine, WI. If anyone has any further information relating to Michael Kilmartin or who could provided and early images of Root I'd be very grateful. I'd be particularly pleased to receive some contemporary quality photographs of 'Kilmartin Corner'.
