⭐ Feature Friday

This week, we're celebrating one of Snyder's most accomplished sons.

Born and raised in Snyder, Powers Boothe built an extraordinary career that spanned more than four decades in film, television, and theater. Audiences around the world came to know him through unforgettable performances in productions such as Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones (which earned him a Primetime Emmy Award), Tombstone, Deadwood, Sin City, 24, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and many more.

This October, Snyder will honor his remarkable legacy in a very special way.

🎬 Be among the first audiences anywhere to experience the world premiere of a new documentary celebrating the life and career of Powers Boothe.

In recognition of his contributions to the arts and his enduring connection to our community, Scurry County has officially proclaimed October 10, 2026, as Powers Boothe Day.

πŸ•°οΈ Throwback Thursday

Take a trip back in time with us!

This incredible photograph captures a parade making its way through downtown Snyder, likely around 1951. There's so much local history packed into one image!

πŸ‘€ Take a closer look, and you'll spot:
πŸ›οΈ The original look of the current Scurry County Courthouse before its exterior was updated.
🎬 The Ritz Theatre when it was still showing movies.
πŸš— Classic automobiles lining the streets.
πŸŽ‰ A community parade celebrating local pride, including what appears to be a sign recognizing the City League Champions of '51.

Photos like this remind us that while our buildings and streets may change over time, the spirit of community that brings people together remains the same.

πŸ’¬ What details do you notice?
Do you recognize anyone in the photo, remember this courthouse, or know more about this parade? We'd love to hear your stories in the comments!

Every photograph helps tell the story of Snyder.

πŸ•°οΈ History doesn't stop at county lines.

One of the things we're excited to celebrate during SPARK! Places of Innovation is the rich history of West Texas and the stories that connect our communities.

Our friends at Traces of Texas recently shared this fascinating glimpse inside Bill King's Saloon in nearby Colorado City during the late 1800s. It's a wonderful reminder of what life in our region looked like as towns like Colorado City, Snyder, and others were growing and finding their place on the Texas frontier.

Be sure to check out the original post below, and if you've never followed Traces of Texas, they're a fantastic source for stories and photographs from across the Lone Star State.

πŸ’¬ Have you visited the Heart of West Texas Museum in Colorado City?
