GULP!😳 How is it summertime already? This season, with the longer days, we are excited to share some playful (and objectively chaotic) studies that incorporate light, shadow, color, and space.

The only question is… what will these studies turn into for ? Guess we will find out!🤙🏽☀️

Hey Chapel Hill! Our traveling location is on the go this month as we have a pop up location at the Playmakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill, NC. On display alongside their current show, Murder on the Orient Express, our Microgallery exhibition plays on the history of Nutshell Murder diaramas that were created by by Frances Glessner Lee (1878−1962) as the intersection between craft and forensic science.

Her dollhouse-sized dioramas of exquisitely detailed miniature crime scenes were created in the first half of the 20th century and are still used in forensic training today!

Putting our own spin on these historically curated dioramas, this month’s microgallery exhibition is not an investivation of a crime scene, but rather, an investigation of the creative process!

From paint scraps and color swatches to reference photos, sketches, and quotes, the creative process can be a simple yet complex world. Luckily, our team was able to recruit a top notch investigator and an inquisitive artist to help us with this month’s investigation.

Shout out to our AMAZING photographer for capturing the BEST "before" pictures of our mural project! Over the next few weeks, we'll be covering this wall with color as the students of work alongside to bring this mural to life!

Intentionally being done slowly over several weeks so students can watch the creative process come to life before their eyes, we can only hope our mural is as good as theirs!

Used as a template for gaining color inspiration from the students, this drawing served as the foundation of this collaborative project before color was brought into the mix. What colors do you think will look good up there?

We have LOVED our street view location at the Downtown Raleigh Alliance Pop Up Shop (17 E Martin Street, Raleigh) and although we will be wrapping up the gallery soon, our J Sanders Studio location will remain as we dance into 2024! Only a few days left with our downtown location but we are SO excited for the new year ahead! We have a handful of porject in the works, including a FUN exhibition schedule for our micro gallery team to put together. Inspired by "Illuminate" there may be more light coming our way.✨💡🌞
