Did you know there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every "lucky" four-leaf clover? The leaves of four-leaf clovers are said to stand for faith, hope, love, and luck. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Week 9 - almost end of summer and another busy week with Under Construction. Lots of projects flying out the door and a big thank you to the Home Depot on Woodruff Road for their kind donation of bird houses and a new football game for the kids to construct. Another successful week is underway!
Week 8 Under Construction summer camp at Hollingsworth - a hot, but fun week!!
A few more pictures to share...the staff and volunteers for Camp Cultura at the end of a hot July 4th week; Da Bears (ha!) digging during week 6, Archaeology Camp; Fire building during week 7 of Wilderness Ways and finally, last week, week 7, the end of the Overmountain Trek coming back dirty and happy from a fun adventure on the road!!
Wilderness Ways, week 7, had a blast shooting archery, making ice cream...we even dripped the cold bag on our heads and faces to cool off. The older group created intricate shelters during our shelter building unit. Check these out!!
Week 7 at Hollingsworth...the summer is whipping by!! This week we have the Overmountain Group and a Wilderness Ways Camp going on.
The Overmountaineers learned camping skills early in the week and will be heading out from Hollingsworth on Wednesday morning to retrace the Overmountain Settlers footsteps. (The overmountain men and women were backcountry settlers who defeated the loyalist militia at the battle of King's Mountain in 1780. Campers will retrace their steps with visits to Kings Mountain, Roan Mountain and Sycamore Shoals Historic Park)
Today, I caught the campers playing campfire games that they'll play around the campfire while on their trip - Werewolf was this game!!

Week 6 brought Greenville Schools again for a survival type of field trip...shelter building, archery and learning how to build a fire with a nice marshmallow to reward our hard work!!! Fun to get out into the wilds of Hollingsworth!! (If you're quiet, you'll hear birds, bugs and babbling brooks along with kids giggling!) A fun experience for all!
Week 6 - Archaeology time!! The older crowd found a new spring, next to the spring house - wow!!! The younger group took a break from all of that digging and made bricks and ice cream...perfect for a hot day!!
Hi all!! Been working (teaching archery and fire building!) rather than posting pictures...sorry!! Week 5 from Wilderness Ways - the older group - I let the kids take pictures with my phone! Here they are!
This week was a busy one with Archaelogy Camp, Greenville Schools coming for survival games as well as The Sports Club Kids Camp. Greenville Schools and Sports Club kids got to shoot archery, created a shelter and even learned how to build a fire. The reward at the end of the session was a "special treat" for the campers. Here are some pictures of the Sports Club Kids Camp...
The older team in week 3 Archaeology camp found a treasure trove of goodies in our new dig site - a bunch of tools and electronic type of things. Take a look at all of the pictures, it was a hot week, but the kids should be extremely proud of what they found!! Fun to dig and find all of these things...history in the making!!
More from Archaelogy camp, the younger group having fun next to the Wash House, finding all sorts of artifacts!
3rd week of fun at Hollingsworth...even through the heat!! Here's archaeology camp - the younger group, having fun digging for pieces of plates.
Wow, the German's kind of have the right idea! A bit like Hollingsworth! Maybe not quite ready to give them knives but tools - definitely!!
Knives and fire in kindergarten?
At Germany's forest schools, everything is outdoors and the toys are tools.
Our annual Juneteenth was held last Friday June 17th and John Fowler again was there to share his songs and storytelling. Several folks made brooms and everyone shared in a good old fashioned barbecue lunch - courtesy of Bucky's BBQ! Fun was had by all!
Greenville Schools connected at Hollingsworth with an exploration of our 55 acres. The theme this week was survival so firemaking, archery and shelter building were top of the list!
Our new American Roots camp with Flannery leading the charge, caught a break and was indoors for their "instrument making" activity! They had a blast and let their "creative" side out while learning a bunch about the origins of our American heritage and folklore!
Week 2 was a HOT one!!! Plenty of shade and water was provided and of course...fun was had by all!! Wilderness ways had a blast dipping themselves in "spring water" to keep cool. The younger Wilderness Ways group built a shelter and of course everyone shot lots of archery!!
Our red tailed hawks were at it again at Hollingsworth - I had my zoom with me this time - tee hee!! Don't forget to come on out and check out our wonderful camps this summer! Sign ups are still being accepted at the front desk - we're just getting started!! We are kicking off summer with beautiful weather, great staff and fantastic campers!! And...oh by the way...a whole bunch of nature!! What could be better!!???
Finally, who doesn't like a challenge of "finding the 4 leaf clover"!! Apparently the Grizzlies in Under Construction Camp were pro's!! Never seen so many found!! Ian's astounded!!
Check out the cool fort we built in Under Construction Camp at Hollingsworth! Archery too!!
Under Construction Group Photo's for fun!!!
Under Construction Camp at Hollingsworth Outdoor Center had us building from our Creation Station and we made planes and vehicles throughout the week and even a cedar bench!

We "captured" the two red tailed hawks - our resident birds at Hollingsworth!!! Hard to get a good close up!!! Aren't they gorgeous!!
More fantastic volunteers from Creative Builders for Hands on Greenville, this time working at the Y Program Center - staircase done!! A big thank you to all!!
