Shady Valley

In case you didn't know Shady Valley has its very own 'song' just like New York and San Francisco...Here's a link so you can listen and a short story about the song. Should you want your own copy I have some, I sell them for Mr. Bailey. If you live near by you can also get a copy at Suba's Restaurant and JC Welcome Center in Mountain City, TN and Harvest Table Restaurant in Meadowview, VA. Hope you like it as much as I do. Nancy

Historical background to the "Shady Valley" song
…from the album, "Scenes From The Heart," by Dan C. Bailey

As a full time preacher Dan Bailey has officiated over, and attended many, funerals, some of which were in Shady Valley, TN. It was some time after one of these funerals that Mr. Bailey decided that he wanted to write a song about beautiful Shady Valley. To him the valley was so peaceful and even the name had a harmonious ring to it.
Since one of the members of his congregation, Bill Lewis, grew up in Shady Valley, Dan ask him what it was like living there ‘back then.’ ”We were just hard working farmers who didn't have a lot of material goods but had a good life. My parents were God-fearing people,” Lewis shared. This provided the basic idea for the song “Shady Valley.” Bailey added the scene in the lyrics from the nursing home because he knew that people who had left Shady Valley would never forget it, and would always long to return home. (Bill Lewis is a retired policeman who currently resides in Bristol, TN.)
This song was based upon real people living in real time in the mountainous community of Shady Valley, TN. If you are from Shady, have ever lived there or even been there… my guess is you will enjoy this song and the precious memories that spring forth after listening to it.
Dan Bailey, who started writing songs in 1983, is the author of the words and music. His youngest son, Clay, is the vocalist on the recording. Others who made important contributions are listed on the cover of the album and should not be overlooked. The album was recorded in Bristol, TN, home of country music.

It's been awhile since my last communication and I am sorry but we're still waiting for the perfect (or any property for that matter) to present itself. I'd heard rumors that the school might close (we understand there are less than 30 students) but nothing for sure yet. Anyway we're in a holding pattern and trying really hard to be patient. Just wanting to 'keep in touch' even though not much to share...yet!

Some of our first items to be 'shared' in our museum..All in great condition, two wheels on the milk wagon need to be reattached. .If you hear of anyone in Shady Valley, near the crossroads, who would sell or donate at least three acres we'd love to hear about it.

Beautiful Backbone Rock. This tunnel was created in 1901 to allow timber and ore to be transported from History and Happenings - Shady Valley, TN to Bristol, VA. It is also said to be the shortest tunnel in the US measuring only 14' Backbone Rock is a popular tourist attraction. Note the very top of the arch...this area was hand-chiseled out after the original hole was blasted, to make room for the train's smoke stack to get through.
