I was crossing a small garden bridge when a white crane stood among the water irises and everything went quietly still. The cool blues and greens, with soft touches of lavender along the bank, stuck with me—there was a calm in that slender silhouette against the water. I wanted to bring that moment into a room, so I made Mystic Blues to offer a peaceful, grounded focal point. Shapes, colors, marks and imaginative play …

When I don’t have the stamina to stand at the easel for hours at a time I play. It keeps my creative juices flowing !

How do you keep your creativity flowing?

I found these carved rocks near the Portland Head Lighthouse when the tide was gentle. The waves kept shaping the stone and sending sprays that revealed a smooth, curved cutout, and the colors felt like a simple meeting of sky, water, and earth. There’s a line by Billings that fits: "Waves are inspiring, not because they rise and fall, but because each time they fall, they never fail to rise again."
