The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.). Cloth face coverings should not be surgical masks or N-95 respirators.

Cloth Face Coverings Should:

· fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

· be secured with ties or ear loops

· include multiple layers of fabric

· allow for breathing without restriction

· be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage

To learn how to make your own cloth face covering, visit the CDC website and scroll down the page:

What Is A Virus ? | Best Learning Videos For Kids | Dr Binocs | Peekaboo Kidz

Viruses are a type of germ. They are very tiny, and when they get inside your body can make you sick. Viruses cause colds, chicken pox, flu, and other diseases like coronavirus (COVID-19). Unfortunately, antibiotics don't work on viruses like they do on bacteria. But don’t worry – this is when your immune system steps in! The immune system is designed to monitor, recognize, and remember the virus and take action to eliminate it. It does this by releasing chemicals that trigger virus-fighting cells which are then sent to wipe out the enemy. This video helps explain what a virus is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS7vsBgWszI

04/27/2020

By now, everyone has heard that washing your hands with soap and water is one of the best ways to stay safe from coronavirus (COVID-19). The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following:

1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place.

2. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

If you’d like to learn more, watch this video about how soap can inactivate coronavirus: www.exploratorium.edu/video/how-does-soap-inactivate-coronaviruses

Many parents are wondering how to bring up the epidemic in a way that will be reassuring and not make kids more worried than they already may be. As a parent, you will want to make sure they get reliable information — and you want them to hear it from you. Recycling paper is great way to reduce the amount of trash to the landfill, but what if we could turn it back into paper at home!

Materials needed: two plastic tubs, mesh screen, water, cloth, paper.

Tear the paper into tiny pieces and add them in a plastic tub filled ½ with water, knead the paper in the water so that it turns into soft pulp. Place the mesh screen on top of the other plastic tub, spread the paper pulp thinly and uniformly across the screen, and then layer a cloth on top to absorb or drain access water – remove cloth. Remove the screen to a sunny area and allow 1-2 hours to dry.
Write on your paper, post a pic, and share with us using #DiscoveryCubeTeachItThursdays #DiscoveryCubePaper #DiscoveryCubeAtHome #LearnAtHome #RecycledPaper
