Artist Robert E. Wood took some beach time of his own when he made this interpretation of Corona del Mar entitled “Caprice No. 1.” See it on view in our featured exhibit Artistic Legacy: the Ann and Bill Cullen Collection, free with general museum admission!

Originally designed to look like ferocious animals in order to fend off evil spirits, these adorable hats were staples of dress for young Han Chinese children. Celebrate with the Museum at upcoming interactive lecture events, Loteria Presentation and Book signing with Dr. Gloria Arjona (Sept 25) and Latinos in the American Revolution presented by Dr. David E. Hayes-Bautista (Oct 3).

Plus, get a closer look at the painting, "Everyday Fiesta", in our current exhibit, The Gift of Los Angeles: Memories in Watercolor by Gayle Garner Roski. The painting depicts a childhood memory where artist Gayle Roski fell in love with the vibrant colors and celebratory ambiance of handcrafted folk art and live music of strolling Mariachi bands in Olevera Street - a cultural gem, considered the birthplace of Los Angeles.

Clean Air Day Challenge Accepted! Help spread the word and take the California Clean Air Day, coming up on October 6, and take the pledge to improve the air quality we breathe. A simple action of taking the bus to your next Museum visit can make a difference.

In partnership with the Coalition for Clean Air and G.O. P.A.S.E program, Bowers Museum will offer free General Admission to visitors who show their ticket stub for public transportation taken on October 6. 🚌

Ever taken the time to look up at some of your favorite #hollywood theaters? The @hollywoodpantagestheatre ceiling brings us glam using an Art Deco and Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture style.

🤓 This week the #Bowersblog looks at the subject of a 1975 exhibition at the Bowers Museum, titled “Movie Palace Modern: Anthony Heinsbergen.” After learning his trade from a top master at the young age of 10, the 19th Century Dutch painter and designer Anthony Heinsbergen went on to create an impossible number of American theater interiors during the golden age of the movie palace. 🎨
