Drifting Heart

Drifting Heart Drifting Heart ~ Full of life. Full of soul. Full of love. Handcrafted Sculptures by Maureen Carasiti with driftwood collected from the California coast.

Drifting Heart ~ Three quarters of the earth's surface is covered by water. The ocean conceals interactions of life in ways that we will never fully understand. Mesmerizing and mysterious. I’ve always felt a sense of romance with the ocean and movement along the shore. Tides coming in and going out. The ocean is my Zen. Intoxicating really. My Dad pulled driftwood from the Pacific Ocean in the 60’s up near Ventura, the land of my birth, and made a sculpture that hung in our family home. As a kid I would think about where that driftwood came from, how long it was churning in the waves and the stories it could tell of it’s travels. Fascinating. His masterpiece now hangs in my home. Full of life. Shortly after my Dad passed away I was walking on the beach in Santa Barbara with my daughter and we came upon a naturally shaped heart made of seaweed and driftwood. I remember that day so vividly…feeling like the heart was put there just for us. Love drifting to the shore. Some things are just not random in this life! I began to collect driftwood and started sculpting a year or so later. The heart just took shape.
