Royal Presidio San Diego in Old Town

Royal Presidio San Diego in Old Town National Historic Landmark, Register Number: 66000226
(1)

Presidio Hill is the historic site where the first California Indians lived and Portola's Expedition arrived in 1769. In 1769, at this site, the Portola-Serra land and sea expeditions united and established the first permanent European settlement of the Pacific Coast of the present-day United States. Fray Junipero Serra founded the Royal San Diego Mission, the first California mission. The Presidio served as a base for exploring expeditions into the interior and as the military headquarters for Southern California. The Presidio site is located on a bluff which was been eroded and undermined since it was cut away for road construction at the foot of the bluff. The bluff needs improvement in stabilization, its condition to be regularly monitored by skilled professionals.

We are very excited about this project, it has been years in talk. Now it is happening. The El Camino Real Trail from Baja California will link up to Northern California. All the missions, ranchos and points of interest will be linked together as a massive trail in history preservation for education, tourism and recreation.

Mexico-based Corredor Histórico CAREM, A.C. and the California Missions Foundation are teaming up to launch this event. Friends of Presidio Park, Descendants of Early San Diego, the Heritage Development Circle, and many more groups will be joining together to support the project.

If you are interested in finding out more about the project please send me an email. We are gathering all names interested in this project to make sure you are invited to launch meeting or are in our mailing list, if you live anywhere within the trail.
