Mission: Established in 2008, the award-winning Sustainability Program is a collaborative effort between the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, the City of San Diego, and San Diego Gas & Electric® (SDG&E). This collaboration is supported by an alliance of the Partnership’s members, Balboa Park stakeholders, and sustainability experts. Together, we aim to establish Balboa Park as an exemplary model of sustainability and energy efficiency.

Two years ago today, the Federal Government announced its intention to leave the Paris Agreement. As a result, the #WeAreStillIn campaign was launched!
Since then, several Balboa Park organizations have signed, including: the Fleet Science Center , the San Diego Museum of Man , and the Balboa Park Sustainability Program.

During this walk-about, we had an informative behind-the-scenes look at the Museum's impressive sustainability efforts.
The San Diego Zoo hosted a sustainable pit stop for the 29th Annual Bike to Work Day with the help of some scaly friends!
This pit stop included a special bin for composting food waste, and had aluminum water bottles, which are easier to recycle!
We had a great time partnering with One Park - One Team for their April get-together! In celebration of Earth Month, we hosted recycling challenges and sustainability trivia for over 140 Balboa Park employees and volunteers.

The Bea Evenson Fountain uses an anemometer, a device used to measure wind speed, to help reduce the amount of water it uses!
As the wind blows stronger, the height of the fountain becomes shorter, preventing water from being blown away and wasted.
