House of Puerto Rico San Diego

House of Puerto Rico San Diego Help us promote our rich Puerto Rican culture by becoming involved with the House of Puerto Rico, San Diego!

The idea for a House of Puerto Rico in Balboa Park started in October 1972. A group of San Diego Puerto Ricans led by Doña Casilda Pagan joined forces and organized ”La Casa de Puerto Rico.” After many years of fundraising, planning and hard work this vision is now a dream come true. The House of Puerto Rico Cottage Museum was inaugurated on Saturday, February 4, 2006.

Cuban & Puerto Rican Cuisine
Since 1983

Our family owned and operated restaurant was established in 1983. We have a strong local following, but have had the privilege to serve many visiting dignitaries, pro-athletes and non-local people in search of good authentic Caribbean food.

Offering the delights of the islands, our menu has many incredible choices: beef with rich sauces simmered with garlic, onions and spices; delicious chicken dishes enhanced with garlic and saffron; and seafood entrees prepared with authentic Caribbean ingredients and original recipes – all served with rice and our famous black beans accented with side orders of scrumptious fried plantains.

Serving beef, chicken, sea food and some vegetarian dishes we are sure you will find something that suits your tastes at Andrés. Our casual tropical ambiance gives our customers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

In the lush mountains in the center of Puerto Rico, 24-year-old Mariangelie Ortiz leads a group of young residents who never thought they would become the leaders of their community, nonetheless find themselves traveling to Washington D.C. to protest in the halls of Congress. I am starting a couple studies as I try to learn more about how asthma affects Puerto Ricans. As I understand it, there may be a number of factors that play a role in whether you have asthma or not or how bad it is if you do have it. Please consider participating in either of the studies. More information below.

Eligible participants will engage in Interviews that may be approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours in length and receive a $50 gift card to thank them for their time.

For ANYONE who identifies as Puerto Rican:
Lisa Colón from the University of Denver, Graduate School of Social Work is conducting a study to understand how the experience of asthma may affect Puerto Ricans differently based on where they were born, when they moved to the US if born in Puerto Rico, who else in their family has been diagnosed with asthma, and how much of their daily life is influenced by Puerto Rican culture and values.
Eligible participants will respond to a series of questions that may take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete and may choose to enter a drawing for 1 of 4 $25 gift cards to thank them for their time.
