American Swedish Institute

First Look: CraftBOWL
Exhibition Preview Party
January 19, doors 6:30 p.m., event 7 - 10 p.m.
$15 ASI members / $20 non-members.

Join us at American Swedish Institute for the opening night of "CraftBOWL," a new exhibition project that features three internationally acclaimed craft artisans from Sweden: Jögge Sundqvist (wood), Ingegerd Råman (ceramics) and Bertil Vallien (glass) presented together for the first time.

CraftBOWL continues on view January 20 - April 8, 2018. The exhibition launches the American Swedish Institute's 2018 year-long exploration of "The Handmade."

Here's What's Happening!
• Tap into the craft mindset of Jögge Sundqvist in his "Rhythm & Slöjd" performance where "wood, sweat and woodchips" mix with rock 'n' roll.
• Stroll the galleries with Maja Heuer of Sweden's The Glass Factory, curator of Bertil Vallien's Rites of Passage installation.
• Bask in the cornfield-to-culture sounds of Minneapolis-based musician Chris Koza.
• Throw a bowl with Northern Clay Center, watch demos from Foci - Minnesota Center for Glass Arts and ASI's spoon carvers. Browse a pop-up library from the American Craft Council.
• Sample beer from Indeed Brewing Company and try some java by Tiny Footprint Coffee.

Taste the house-made culinary treats, cocktails and beverages available for purchase from FIKA at the American Swedish Institute and shop The American Swedish Institute Museum Store.

CraftBOWL also includes "101 Bowls," an eclectic installation from organizations including American Craft Council, Minnesota Museum of American Art and Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum. And Bowls for Open Arms, a non-profit benefit exhibition supporting the work of Open Arms of Minnesota.
