Spark Farm Park, with sculpture

Spark Farm Park, with sculpture Open daily, dawn to dusk, experience food fresh from the plant, while enjoying sculpture contributions from around the country and the corner

Spark Farm Park (with sculpture) is a joint sculpture park and urban farming experience on the corner of 18th and Felix in St. Joseph, MO. Utilizing a vacant, tree canopied lot, Firehouse Studios is creating a community park. This park provides an opportunity to experience the beauty of nature, richness of local sustainable-practice food, and creativity of humankind. Spark incorporates sculpture, site-specific art, and permaculture inspired farming/gardening techniques to create a community oasis. The natural world has long been an inspiration and medium for artistic creation. But just as nature is beautiful in her design, she is beautiful in her function. We are creating a sculpture park and garden that is edible and sustainable—a highly functioning park. A sculpture farm. A farm park. Visitors to Spark can harvest edibles from the park, and enjoy the artistic contributions from regional and national artists invited to contribute. In the spirit of creating a true community collaboration, we encourage all people to participate in the growth of the plants, and add artistic contributions. All respectful creations are welcome at Spark.

Spring cleaning began at the park yesterday! One of the best things about a permaculture, no-till style park is that the leaves, twigs and dead plants are put right back into the earth as future fertilizer. We used a lot of our leaves and twigs to buildup our hugelkultur berms. So great to see spring awakening in the park!

just pour salad dressing on em--!!

NEED PROOF THAT VINEGAR IS A WEED-TERMINATOR? Just look at the weeds growing along a pea-stone path in my Herb Garden. These were photographed yesterday afternoon, just moments before I sprayed them with cheap, undiluted, store-brand white vinegar. Here’s what all that greenery looked like this morn...
