Molly Mugler is one of our August featured artists, skillfully capturing Maine's incredible beauty in her paintings. About this work, Molly says, "I have created a series of work of coastal boundaries from an aerial perspective. I am assisted in these efforts by my drone, and I have become adequately confident to fly without incident. Midcoast Maine is generously endowed with an abundance of intricate and varied water/land borders. These intersections of land masses and sea are often serpentine and convoluted, as defined by erosion, tides, currents and weather. Portraying them from a bird’s eye view is delightfully challenging and rewarding."

Come in and see the rest of Molly's work, and the work of our other member artists, Monday - Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 12-4 for the rest of the summer

Heather Newton Brown is one of our August featured artists. Heather is a mixed-media encaustic artist utilizing found objects in her work. The artist statement for this series is below. Come in and see the variety of work in our gallery, Monday - Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 12-4

Inherent Synesthesia: This body of work is very different from my other recent work, which is motivated by the impulse to process complex and troubling material. For a variety of personal reasons, I felt drawn to spend some time focusing on more quiet and meditative work. The repetition and the intuitive process I used was comforting, and allowed my mind to find reassurance that although things can feel bleak, these difficult times come with important lessons and opportunities to focus on observation.
The title of the series, “Inherent Synesthesia”, is a quote from “The Spell of the Sensuous”, by David Abram: The intertwining of sensory modalities seems unusual to us only to the extent that we have become estranged from our direct experience”. The smaller pieces are “Glimpses of Synesthesia”, representing times that we get a sense of this phenomenon, but never complete the experience.
Synesthesia: a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in other sensory or cognitive pathways (ex: "tasting colors" or "smelling temperature").

As part of our featured artists exhibit, Joan Wright’s “Fish Weirs” series is on display in our front room for the month of August. Additionally, Joan has a portfolio of other available works with size options, if you don’t see the perfect print for your space. This is a great example of how much of our available work is not on display; our member artists have inventory you may not have seen, and are always interested in communication about your needs. Stop in and see Joan’s work, and the rest of the work in our gallery, Monday - Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 12-4, for the remainder of the summer.

Linda Clowes Murray Linda Clowes Murray recently sold this enchanting piece during a garden tour and party from her home in Gardiner. Linda describes meeting a lovely couple from Virginia who said the painting reminded them of a recent trip to the Iguazu Falls in Brazil. Art can resonate with such a variety of people and bring about such an array of emotions, and it is inspiring to hear about people listening to their intuition and connection to a piece. Congratulations to the lucky couple!
