Why Walking Helps Us Think

Research has shown that going out for a walk in nature can really boost brainpower. Check out this article to see how walking helps us think.

Since at least the time of Greek philosophers, many writers have discovered a deep, intuitive connection between walking, thinking, and writing.

Coyote and badger: An unlikely pair?

Footage showing a coyote and badger working and playing together may seem like a strange sight, but the pairing is an example of mutual arrangement where species work together to the benefit of both.

A zoologist explains why footage showing the two animals working together, might be more common than you think.

Sinnissippi Audubon is pleased to announce that we received a grant from The Kjellstrom Family Foundation.

The grant will be used to collaborate with local art students to create an art show featuring all 389 species of birds identified by National Audubon Society that could be impacted by climate change if we don’t act now to make changes.

The show will be displayed at Severson Dells Nature Center this spring.

More details will be available in the future!

Wait… there’s more than 3 R’s for Recycling? Not just Reduce, Reuse, Recycle? — Severson Dells Nature Center

What comes before recycling? Read our Americorps Member Holly's latest blog about what you should consider before recycling.

Exciting news for Boone County Conservation District! We loving hearing about more green space for native flora and fauna to thrive!

In partnership with the Boone County Conservation District, Openlands is proud to announce our preservation of 350 acres of natural beauty at the confluence of Piscasaw Creek and the Kishwaukee River. This newly preserved land is home to ecologically precious remnant oak savanna, wetlands and other high-quality natural landscapes. The creek corridor harbors rare, threatened and endangered species such as migrating Whooping Cranes and Blanding’s turtles. Land along the creek, especially in its lower parts, is critical to maintaining an adequate clean water supply for the surrounding communities in Boone County.
Conservation efforts will include ways for you to enjoy this natural landscape, so stay tuned for updates and opportunities to #GetOutside and discover this place!
