In 1961 , students from Friendship Junior College were jailed after a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter in Rock Hill, SC. The group of students, later named the Friendship Nine, remained in jail 30 days and attracted national attention, including a visit from John Lewis. Their “jail, no bail” strategy reignited the sit-in movement across the country. In 2015, their convictions were vacated.
