Korell Center for Wyoming Heritage

Korell Center for Wyoming Heritage A museum featuring Wyoming Wildlife, Historical Wax Figures, Trap Collection, 1900's Farm Equipment, Antique Saddles, Arrowheads, and Western Artwork.

www.wyriverton.com Jake Korell always had a love for the outdoors and was a long-time trapper. He and his family began creating full body mounts from the more notable specimens the family trapped and hunted for their own collection. This collection grew to encompass more than 60 mounts and the decision was made to give the public access. This eventually became the basis for the Wind River Heritage Center. Over the years, many wonderful collections pertaining to Fremont County and Wyoming's history have been graciously given to or loaned to the museum. There is a life-like wax museum featuring features 27 scenes with life-like wax figures of pioneers, Native Americans, trappers, outlaws, cowboys, politicians, and inventors who were influential in our nation’s development. Other attractions at the Wind River Heritage Center include:
Jake Korell Antique Trap Collection
1900’s-Era Farm Equipment
Antique Saddle Collection
Trapper’s Cabin
Arrowhead Collection
Western Artwork
History Book Library
Gift Shop

Admission to Wind River Heritage Center is $5 per person and $10 per family. Donations of any amount are appreciated to help us keep the doors open. We are happy to also give guided tours for special groups free of charge; simply call to schedule a time. We host a variety of events for the community. The Power of One Story

Join us this WyoGives Day, Wednesday, July 15:
https://www.wyogives.org/organizations/wyoming-historical-society

Look closely at the faces of our past. History isn't just a collection of dates or a list of battlefields; it is the sum total of individual lives lived against the vast, unforgiving, and beautiful Wyoming landscape. Every monumental moment in our state’s history started with a single choice, a single voice, a single step. Since 1953, the Wyoming Historical Society has believed that the true heartbeat of the Equality State is kept alive through The Power of One Story.

When we look back over seventy years of preservation, we see how easily a narrative can vanish. A single photograph left unlabeled, a handwritten diary tucked away in an attic and forgotten, an oral tradition missing its final keeper; when one story disappears, a piece of who we are goes with it. We are dedicated to ensuring that the diverse traditions, hard-fought struggles, and quiet triumphs of Wyoming’s people across all 23 counties remain accessible to present and future generations.

Your gift activates the power of a single narrative. It ensures that the small-town history, the isolated homesteading memory, and the local community milestone aren’t swallowed up by time. History isn't just about the past; it’s about what we choose to carry forward today. When you give to the Wyoming Historical Society this WyoGives, you ensure that the line connecting our ancestors to our children remains unbroken. Stand up for the stories that make Wyoming unlike anywhere else on earth.

Harness The Power of One and make your impact today!

🎨 Something colorful is coming to the Korell Center for Wyoming Heritage! 🦬🎨

We are absolutely thrilled to give you a sneak peek at our brand-new outdoor mural, currently being brought to life by the incredibly talented artist, James Overstreet! Our wooden side wall is officially transforming into a vibrant celebration of our state's rich natural beauty.

This stunning piece is packed with iconic Wyoming imagery—featuring the majestic bison, the vibrant Indian paintbrush, and the cheerful meadowlark nestled against a backdrop of Wyoming's landscape and a brilliant sunset. It’s a true tribute to the wildlife and heritage that make Wyoming so uniquely beautiful.

Swipe through the progress photos to see the magic unfolding! James has been hard at work braving the elements, and it is already looking spectacular. We can't wait to share the final masterpiece with our community soon.
