From the artist’s easel: “I had photographed the Draper Temple a year before for a client and felt that I had enough info for the painting.
We were staying in Provo and it was about 6AM. I had stirred and was getting back to sleep and Pam said, "Maybe you should go now and photograph the Draper temple ."
I said , "I don't want to."
I let about five minutes pass,"OK, let's get up and go!"
The sun was just rising on our way and there was quite a bit of cloud activity so I wasn't sure what we would get when we got there.
As I was shooting from different angles the sun came over the hill and peeked through the clouds and there it was, about 1/4 of a rainbow , very soft and subtle but very visible. The bottom rested on a corner of the temple and the top disappeared just before it reached Moroni.
There are no coincidences.
I'm calling it "Draper Temple, Heaven's Covenant". I'm reminded of the Lord's promised sign to Noah.” -Glen S. Hopkinson

From the painter's journal on the website: "I was driving up Wapiti Valley...clouds were hovering over Jim Mountain and the lighting was dramatic. I pulled over and set up my easel, paints and canvas and started doing the kind of image capture that I like best: Plein air! I started imagining myself as an Indian scout, perhaps a Ute, watching some Crow braves and families crossing the valley...(the paint work is quick when painting outside, but the mind still wanders!)"- Find out the rest of his story by visiting the website at hopkinsonartgallery.com Masters of the Absarokas, oil on canvas, 22x28, $5000 #westernart #pleinair #wildwest

"This little painting is of my granddaughter, a freshman at BYU. A few years ago she posed for this painting and obviously it is in my permanent collection. Sometimes my models suffer for my art, but I think Lavender did alright during this session. All she had to do was lay in the sun window and read. She is a bookworm, so how hard was that? I still have a bunch of grandchildren (and now great- grand children) that I still need to paint. Those paintings either end up in my collection or their parent's collections."-Glen S. Hopkinson

"Oh, hey there! I know you!" -Artist Glen S. Hopkinson visited Heirloom Art & Co. at Zions Mercantile in Provo, Utah last week and came face to face with a large painting he created 16 years ago entitled "Other Sheep, Another Fold- John 10:16".
"Standing in front of this painting, I was reminded of the interesting things that brought it to being created. I stayed several weeks in Hawaii on the set of Keith Merrill's movie "Testament", produced by the LDS church, and spent that time sketching and shooting photos. I used 50 characters in this scene, and among the people who modeled were family members, movie actors, and a tall man who posed for the figure of Jesus. He was a handsome guy but not the face I wanted this resurrected Jesus to have. I must have painted the face of Jesus a dozen times before he had the look I wanted him to have. Among the people who modeled were my sons and daughters and grandchildren. My father, artist Harold Hopkinson, also posed for one of the people. Dad passed away before I finished the painting. It was an ambitious and tremendous effort and I still am glad that I painted it. Seeing it again was like running into an old friend!"

"As long as the sun gives us its glorious light I will have a subject to paint. A white cloud isn't simply white. A blue sky isn't just blue, and water, well water will always be a variety of luminous colors.
The warmth of this billowy day, sunlight on the brow, nose, lips , the brilliance of the white dresses (a touch of sky color here and there) reflecting light bouncing back into the shadows gives us a scene of serenity and joy."-artist Glen S.Hopkinson. This painting, "A Beautiful Blustery Day", is on display at the gallery. Oil on canvas, 20x36.
