Beauty and Belief offers access to Islamic culture, providing ‘a view from within’ by project director, Tunisian born Dr. Sabiha Al Khemir. As an introduction to the arts of Islamic culture, this exhibition aims to bridge differences and inspire insight through beauty. The exhibition features over 250 objects from 50 lenders in the United States and nine other countries in Europe and the Middle East. This will be the first time some of the art is featured in the United States and the first time all of the artwork meets together in one place. February 24 - September 29 Admission is Free. On Friday, June 8, from 1 to 4 pm, the BYU Museum of Art will be hosting Andrew Kosorok in his family workshop,“Why the Camel Smiles: Exploring the Tradition of the 99 Most Beautiful Names of God from the Qur’an.” Kosorok will lead a will lead a workshop about the 99 Most Beautiful Names of God from the Qur’an—referencing objects on display in the Beauty and Belief exhibition. Participants will also make their own stained-glass tracery platters to keep. All are welcome to this free workshop on Friday, June 8, from 1 to 4 pm, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Workshop Series Announced


In conjunction with Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture, the MOA is excited to announce a series of workshops for adult audiences. The Beauty and Belief Workshop Series will feature explorations of the 99 Names of God, music and dance in the Middle East, the scientific tool of astrolabes, and the use of geometry in Islamic Art. Workshops are free, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please check specific workshop listing for details on how to register.

Family Art Festival: Journey through the Arts of Islam

This summer the museum’s annual Family Art Festival will return on June 15 and 16, 10:00 am – 3:00 p.m., inspired by the themes in Beauty and Belief: Crossing Bridges with the Arts of Islamic Culture. Participants are invited to the museum to listen to stories of the Islamic world, participate in Middle Eastern music and dance demonstrations, create Islamic art masterpieces, talk with local Muslims about Islamic culture, and sample Middle Eastern food in the MOA Cafe. Families are welcome to drop in anytime to this free event.
