EXP Studios is thrilled to welcome Kim Erika Whitworth to our team in the role of content strategist! Kim Erika holds a Master’s in Education and teaching certification from Harvard University and a BA/Engineering from Boston University. She joined Mass Audubon as teacher naturalist in 2000 and has worked as an instructor for preschool, homeschool, school out-reach programs, and public programs for all ages. Kim Erika has recently been involved with setting up a new urban visitor center and designing curriculum that will engage a population that has little access to natural open space. Preferring bugs, salamanders and other non-furred animals, she is passionate about vernal pools and other aquatic life. She also serves on the board of the Vernal Pool Association. Kim is a Big Sister, originally in the Cambridge, MA community.

For-profit companies spend billions a year on brand identity to stay fresh, clear and relevant in their marketplaces. In kind not-for-profits such as museums need to sharpen their brands and also stay relevant in the market place of ideas and audience attention. EXP’s Creative Strategist, John Carney, drawing from his graphic study at the Basel School of Design and RISD and visual placement experience with Boston Beer and MetLife is bringing targeted and “sticky” brand development to it’s museum clients. EXP creates logos, products and brand standards to its museum clients such as the Norman Rockwell exhibit, the Virginia Museum of the Horse and . EXP Studios is pleased to formalize it’s collaboration with sister studio Visitor Metrics, a Woman-Owned Business.
Visitor Metrics is led by Alexandra Nussdorfer, a Bentley
University alum and tech start-up veteran. Visitor Metrics is bolstered by team member Rebecca Fox, a Los Angeles based online learning and construction software expert.

Rebecca, awarded for her contribution as a woman in technology is personally committed to building a new vision for diverse work groups. EXP’s Visitor Metrics partnership focuses on the human behavioral science behind audience-driven experiences like museums, on-line education and technology platforms.

Alexandra “Alex”, based in Boston, utilizes her business degree, tech start-up experience and years of experience in the education realm to better understand and reach the visiting public. Whether EXP is producing software, curating content or studying front-end data, Visitor Metrics seeks a better way to shape visitor experiences through the lens of a changing world.

Today, EXP visited one of the largest petroglyphs sites in the Southwest! Dating as far back as 400 and 1450 AD, the Three Rivers petroglyphs created by the Jornada Mogollon people include animals, geometric patterns and sunburst. This site is quite a treasure and Three Rivers National Park offers close contact with these prehistoric art pieces! Well worth the trip!

Today, on-location in Las Cruces, New Mexico, EXP facilitated re-branding and re-imagining workshops of a national treasure at the Organ Mountain Monument. This enchanted, half-million acre gem features a legendary cave dwelling, indigenous petroglyphs, pre-historic fossil trackways, western culture and exquisite desert flora and fauna. Working with the US Bureau of Land Management’s expert staff and archaeologist Garrett Leitermann, EXP Studios (John Carney and Shaun McCauley) are shaping a new vision of preserving, protecting and presenting this iconic landscape for generations to come.

EXP Studios is humbled today, Indigenous Peoples Day, as we reflect on the work we’ve been privileged to collaborate on with the Native American community across North America. These beautiful installations include Native American Gallery, Wampanoag living history site, the Abenaki oral history project at the Vermont Folklife Center, the All Roads project at and currently at the Dripping Spring sNatural Area Visitor Center in New Mexico.

EXP Studios is pleased to open Lakeland Public Library’s first in a series of exhibits advancing it’s “One Community” emphasis on historical ties that bind. EXP was the prime exhibit designer, planner and builder and completed interpretive planning, graphic and spatial design, fabrication and media technology installation. Our Museum Artisans and project managers orchestrated the delicate integration of museum object cases, digital murals and hands-on interactives. Lauded by Lakeland city directors, this exhibit is the first of more to come!! 🚂

On this, the 21st anniversary of the terror attacks on September 11, 2001, we remember fire fighter George Cain (John‘s cousin) and all of the heroes who lost their lives on that terrible day.

EXP Studios is pleased to partner with the National Park Service in Nachitoches, LA at the restoration of the Cane River Depot. Our team is currently in the schematic phases of design at this important African American heritage site which will recognize the past as healing and recognition are critical steps to the future. EXP is building 3D models and creating an interpretive plan in the role of prime contractor of this design/build project of national and local importance.

Stages of Freedom Has Rhode Island’s Only Local Black History Museum - Rhode Island Monthly

Here is a wonderful article from Rhode Island Monthly about our clients at Rhode Island's only Black History Museum, Stages of Freedom and their mission to tell the stories of Black Rhode Islanders, as well as their work with swim empowerment programs that offer free swim lessons to youth of color. A group that is 5.5 times more likely to drown as white youth.

The Westminster Street gallery in Providence features the untold stories of Rhode Island's African American community.

Happy International Museum Day! In honor of it, we share a humbling and memorable project from over ten years ago.... a museum we created at Queensborough Community College: the Kupferberg Holocaust Center and Museum. We provided all content, design, curatorial advisement, production and fabrication services. To this day, it is a project that is immeasurable in its personal impact upon us.

Today we multi-tasked. Worked on projects and attended the National Association of Interpretation Virtual Conference where we had a lightbulb 💡moment... learned the value of Tik Tok! Check out this data... what a way to create relevance for younger audiences to your institution! A day of space planning a new museum in Maine, today, involved lots of listening, thinking, and creative energies of a large team. This often produce diagrams and sketches that look like this spaghetti in the early months. In the end, a new museum will be built and a super cool experience created!! We LOVE to bring our collaborative spirit to the table to shape a museum with our architectural partners and museum stakeholders.

On our way out of town we are catching some beautiful fall foliage in the Lewiston - Auburn area!
