The cover of MSS 1.2 comes from the first flyleaf of an 18th-century Italian manuscript copy of the De rerum natura, a two-thousand-year-old poem written by the Roman poet and philosopher Lucretius. The penciled notes are from later owners.

Article Spotlight: In "(In)completeness in Middle English Literature: The Case of the Cook's Tale and Tale of the Gamelyn," author Timothy L. Stinson explains the ways that incompleteness is both the de facto status of much of Middle English literature as well a defining characteristic of it, looking specifically at unfinished works like Chaucer's Cook's Tale and the Tale of Gamelyn, which has often been inaccurately attributed to Chaucer.
