Pellston Historical Society Museum

Pellston Historical Society Museum Step into the history of Pellston with your entire family!
(1)

The historic train depot in Pellston, Michigan is brimming with relics from our town's history! It won't cost your family a thing to come in and explore the selection of items that help us remember what it was like to live in the days when railroads were the way to travel and logging was the way to make a living. Historic photos cover the walls and a slide show loops continuously. Glass cases contain antique tools, household items and documents depicting our town's charming history. New this summer; a firefighting room dedicated to the men and women who have served as volunteer fire fighters in our community over the decades!

Do you love local history? Feel at home in museums? Want to share that love?

The Pellston History Museum is looking for someone to work 3 5-hour shifts every week this upcoming season! Job responsibilities include interacting with the public, cataloging items and keeping the museum clean and tidy. If you love meeting people from out of our area and bragging on our town, keeping our history alive with the next generation and bathing in the rich aroma of history, this MAY be the perfect job for YOU!

Write us a letter and tell us why this job should be YOURS! Please share this post and be sure to tell the history lovers in your life (who may not be on facebook themselves!). Aaaaand go!

This just makes me giggle! I thought about putting it on a postcard to sell in our giftshop. Maybe next year. I feel like it needs a caption though. Maybe you guys can come up with one!

This will most likely be the final Facebook Photo Friday for the season. If I can get in to open up at all in October I will, but this is my busy season at home. Maybe I'll make the occasional post from the comfort of my armchair in front of our woodstove this winter. I'll still be around and checking the account if any of you come across any gems that you'd like to share.

Reposting from Dennis Kent (because I'm not good at computers and I lost the post...)

"In the cover photo you can catch a glimpse of the stores across the street from the Depot. Here is a photo of a visit by Santa Claus taken about 1914. The store in the center is the Antique store today. My Dad, "Dick" Kent is in the front just to the left of Santa with the flat cap. He looks to be about 6 or 7 and was born in December of 1907. Does anyone recognize anyone else in the photo?"

09/23/2016

This week I'm going to let the new photo that Dennis Kent submitted be our Facebook Photo for Friday. Can anyone help him identify any of the faces? I'd love to know who Santa was!

FPF: We're doing this early again this week. I'll be gone all weekend so the museum will be closed after today but will reopen on Tuesday next week.

Handwriting on the back of this photo says, "1 Nelson Bennett". That's all I've got, but I sure do love looking at this one. The beards, the clothes, the stances...I wish that I could get to know them.

This week we're going to celebrate Facebook Photo Friday on Tuesday since I'll be out of the museum on Friday. The museum will still be open that day, but closed on Saturday.

I'll be eating dinner at Hoppie's Landing tonight so it seems appropriate to post an airport photo! This airport has seen a lot of changes over the years, many airlines have flown here, and a fair share of celebrities have come through. We have an airport to be proud of! Even if you aren't flying, stop in and appreciate the Up North decor and enjoy a meal upstairs at the Landing.

We're having a lovely rainy day here in Pellston on this Facebook Photo Friday! The air is fresh and sweet again and I'm so thankful for the break from the heat!

Of all of the things housed in our museum my personal favorites are photos. Specifically photos with people in them. I love to study thier faces, their clothing, their environment. I guess at what they were like, how they lived, who they really were.

This one isn't so old but it is a great one. It says a lot. The only information that I have is writing on the back that tells me that Dick Woodward is the fella on the right. Does this trigger a memory for anyone?

Facebook Photo Friday!

It's hot this week. It's waaaay too hot. Let's cool off by dreaming of winter...(am I alone in this??) This photo of our mailman Bill Wurst hangs in the museum and guests are always delighted to see the skis from this car laying nearby.

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Don't forget to thank your mail carrier!

Come to the museum on Thursday, December 17th from 5:00-8:00pm to enjoy a horse drawn sleigh ride with your family! (Okay, so if we don't have snow, we can't have a sleigh. It'll be a wagon, but I'm still going to call it a sleigh ride because, darn it, it's festive!) Stay warm inside and nibble on delectables from a bake sale to benefit the musuem while you wait your turn. The museum will be fully open to explore during this time. There is no charge to enjoy the museum but donations are always welcome if you feel like giving.

Also, at 7:pm Santa will be across the way at the Pellston Fire Department spending time with kids who want to whisper their Christmas wishes to the jolly man.

Come enjoy both events on Thursday! If you'd be willing to donate some baked goods to the sale I'd be eternally grateful! Contact me for further info.
