Peekaboo Gallery, The Pop Culture Time Machine™, is a fresh concept in the curation, exhibition and sale of exceptional antiques and collectable memorabilia. Through innovative, experiential presentations, Peekaboo Gallery offers its visitors an unabashed celebration of that most fantastic, harrowing and innovative period in history known as the 20th Century. Peekaboo Gallery is the creation of Jordan Reichek. A veteran producer/director in the animation industry, Jordan was also a rabid gatherer of everything vintage pop-culture. His sizeable collections included records, furniture, automobiles, illustration art, clothing, posters, coin-op, ephemera, comics and advertising. His two most passionate fields were vintage commercial tiki décor and Walt Disney’s first theme park, Disneyland. Unsatisfied with the conventional formats of convoluted themed auctions and traditional wholesale dealers, Jordan yearned for an alternative way to liquidate some of his holdings. Using his experience as a storyteller in animation, Jordan conceived a new way to present his unique collections for sale, showcasing them in two innovatively themed events. The Story of Disneyland: An Exhibition & Sale was the first dedicated auction entirely of Disneyland memorabilia. Using theatrical storytelling, every aspect of the exhibition created a fun atmosphere where visitors and buyers were engaged in an experiential way. The auction catalog itself, a work of art and a finely curated celebration of its subject matter. The auction was an overwhelming success. With the ground-breaking sale, Jordan opened the door to a dormant field of collecting and introduced theme parks to the auction world. What followed were several more Disneyland auctions, culminating into collector, Richard Kraft’s, That’s From Disneyland!, record-shattering 2018 auction. The second sale presented the historical significance of mid-century Polynesian commercial escapism in The Art of Tiki: No False Idols. That show was also capped with an original book/catalog by famed author and Tiki impresario, Sven Kirsten. With overwhelming press and public enthusiasm, the exhibition sold out before the doors even opened. Now, with Peekaboo Gallery, the mission is to offer the veteran and novice, hunters and browsers a museum-esque, theatrical experience where the subject matter showcased alternates on a regular basis. It’s both an online destination and roaming, pop-up presentations of vintage memorabilia. These include an ever-rotating selection of artifacts on the web store and several themed exhibitions a year that culminate in an exciting auction event. Peekaboo Gallery’s innovative format is also designed for the seller. The many sharply directed sale events are an incredible opportunity for top collectors and dealers in their given fields to consign items without the fear of low reserves and shoddy representation. If you have anything from an exceptional one-of-a-kind item or a finely curated lifetime collection and are looking for a beneficial path to maximizing your return, Peekaboo Gallery is worth your consideration. For estates of fine antiques and collectables, Peekaboo Gallery offers customized representation for the best path of liquidation. Many concerns for estate planning of heirs and the trusts are the proper methods of identification and marketing of estate antique assets. With our representation, Peekaboo will work together in consultation with beneficiaries and their counsel to maximize not only their inheritance, but also the legacy of their loved ones’ passion. Our first exhibitions included; 25¢ A Play: The Art of the Videocade, a show which recreates the ultimate 1982 mall arcade experience, where top-shelf, vintage video games as well as rare original commercial Atari artwork were on offer. Welcome Aboard, The Friendly Skies!: The Art of High Altitude Travel, where the finest of a century of air travel is showcased in the striking stage of a upper lounge deck of a 757 Jumbo Jet! Everything from rare promotional aircraft models to an unprecedented selection of vintage stewardess uniforms were gathered for this innovative exhibition and sale. We openly welcome all to browse our online gallery and discover within our pop-culture emporium that once again, something old can be something new!

Original 1920s Hollywood MAYAN THEATER Polychrome Cast Iron End Row Seat with Lighting

Here is a unusual piece of Hollywood history! A 1920’s original polychrome enamel ornamental theater end seat. The Mayan Theater in Hollywood, California opened in 1927 and followed the extravagant pattern of themed movie palaces in Los Angeles of the era. Manufactured by famed furniture producer, Heywood- Wakefield, the Mayan Revival piece features elaborate detailing in the castings. The figure is wired for illumination with a central bulb lighting the large glass eyes and nose with direct, angled floor lighting out of the mouth for safety in the dimly lit auditorium. Much of the interior of the Mayan Theater auditorium was gutted and remodeled beyond recognition, taking out many of the original elements such as this incredible seating ornamentation. Luckily, the original lobby called, “The Hall of Feathered Serpents” in intact and stands as a testament to the extravagance and style of old Hollywood.

The piece is all original and very heavy with a gorgeous patina. Mayan Revival pieces are scarce in general and one with a origin of such Hollywood history makes this even more of a find!

BOB BENTOVOJA 1960s Thanksgiving TV WEEKLY Original Cover Artwork Featuring MY FAIR LADY

Here is a spectacular original illustration painting by the famed entertainment caricaturist, Bob Bentovoja! This illustration we believe was used for a late 1960s TV WEEKLY magazine cover which was a syndicated television guide included in locally distributed newspapers across the country.

The three ‘main events’ for this Thanksgiving week issue was the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the annual Dallas Cowboys vs Miami Dolphins NFL Thanksgiving Day game and what must have been the television premier of MY FAIR LADY starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.

The imagery is colorful and sharp as in all Bentovoja’s work. He’s famous for doing 1960s popular culture promo art of Star Trek, Batman, The Beatles, Lost In Space, Bonanza and many more. Bob Bentovoja’s art is becoming more sought after and more scarce, so this is a rare opportunity.

The large art is on illustration stock mounted to illustration board. There is a crease in the board itself but not the artwork, leading us to believe that this was mounted to the board after the original crease occurred on the backing board. Overall excellent condition with minor toning to the paper.

Measures: 27″ x 23 3/4″ @ Los Angeles, California

Why not celebrate the 50th anniversary of the glorious Apollo 11 moon landing with this pre-landing 3D LENTICULAR rendering by Vari-Vue?

1960s “American Moon Landing” Rare Oversize VARI VUE 3-D Space Lenticular

Here is an extremely scarce, oversize version of the famous, pre-Apollo 11 3-D lenticular by Vari-Vue of American astronauts planting the flag on the moon surface. These continued to be produced after the July 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, into the 1970s. This is the very rare, oversized version which we have been told (although not confirmed) that this large size was produced for store display. Consisting of a much thicker plastic material than the smaller postcard sized lenticulars from this period, they all seem to have a common defect of hazing or bubbling in the same mid image area. Does not detract from the overall effect.

Otherwise, the image is very clear and defined with absolutely spectacular dimension to the 3-D nature of the set up.

Stunning 1918 World War I “Lady Liberty” JAMES ROSS BRYSON Lithograph in Antique Frame

An absolutely gorgeous Art Nouveau lithograph depicting a true, young American beauty in what appears to be an almost melancholy reflection on the Great War and the devastation visited upon by both the vanquished and victor. Unlike the more gung-ho patriotism of common “Victory-Girl” images from the era, this elegant beauty draped in the American Flag seems almost weary, looking back over her shoulder. No doubt, this reflection is of the anguish wrought for the costly Victory in Europe.

James Ross Bryson, an early Twentieth Century calendar artist known for his “Bryson Girls”, was a major influence on later 1920s-40s pastel pin-up artists such as Earl Moran, Rolf Armstrong and Zoe Mozert. Bryson died before the end of the war in 1918, making this timely print even more special as it surely was one of his last works. Printed by the Parker-Brawner Litho Company in Washington D.C., the mint condition print is surely uncirculated. Unusually large print.

It has been paired with a contemporary 1900s gilded frame with enough wear and patina to magnify the presentation. A true stunner.

Print Measures: 20 1/2″ x 15″

1967 THE DEADLY ORGAN Psychedelic Grindhouse Horror 1-Sheet Poster

Great Halloween decor!

An original vintage movie poster for the 1967 psychedelic grindhouse horror film, The Deadly Organ. Combining the best of 1960’s go-go sex, The Phantom of the Opera and Carnival of Souls, this Argentinian import was originally titled, “Placer Sagriento.” Dubbed and released in the US under this title. Directed by Emilio Vieyra, the film features a psychotic killer stalking beach bunnies, plying them with heroin and controlling them with his weird organ music to do his bidding as zombie slaves. The poster is every bit as weird and engaging as the movie itself!

VG+ to VF condition, conservation mounted on linen, ready for framing.

ZOWIE! MOD Psychedelic 1960s MIKE HINGE Original Sci-Fi Artwork “PYROFEMIAC” new in our store!

Here’s a very 1960s mod go-go style illustration of a sexy space girl entitled, PYROFEMIAC by one of our favorite mod illustrators and graphic designers: Mike Hinge.

Hinge did a good deal of commercial advertising and science fiction illustration over the years. A good deal of it centered on science fiction and aerospace themes. He was a regular contributor to sci-fi novel covers and story illustration to such publications as ANALOG and AMAZING SCIENCE FICTION in the late 60s and 70s.

This great artwork features a helmeted space girl who appears to be controlling the stylized flames around her. Done in acrylic on illustration board. The piece is titled in letraset type and signed in the image. In excellent condition with minor wear. Very large image.
