Barbara Hack

Available at Chelsie Nicole Contemporary

There’s something captivating about a redhead. The warm light dancing across her hair makes it glow as though kissed by the sun. Draped in a vintage robe and seated in a traditional chair, she carries an air of timeless elegance, as if she belongs to another era. Her story, whether old or new, is one worth telling.

In ‘Emily’s Time’, Barbara Hack beautifully balances the richness of color with the softness of light, allowing the simplest details to become part of a larger narrative. There is a quiet romance to the composition, an invitation to linger and imagine the life, thoughts, and moments that exist beyond the canvas.

It is this sensitivity to both subject and storytelling that makes Barbara’s portraiture so compelling.

Join Barbara at Chelsie Nicole Contemporary for her upcoming Painting from Life demonstration on October 21, followed by her three-day portrait workshop, October 22–24. An opportunity to experience firsthand the observation, technique, and artistic intention behind her remarkable work.

The intricate rendering of lace,
the softness of skin,
the subtle movement of the hands,
and the quiet interplay of light reveal an extraordinary command of her medium.

Beyond the technical excellence lies something more compelling: a narrative left intentionally open to the viewer.

‘In My Life’, an award-winning charcoal self-portrait by Julianne Jonker, began with an unexpected return to a photograph taken of the artist in London during her mid-thirties. What followed was an unplanned journey from a moment captured years ago to a beautifully rendered work of art.

In this intimate video, Julianne shares the story behind the portrait, offering a glimpse into how this remarkable piece came to be.
