The moment a portrait begins to feel alive…
For me, it’s often in the eyes and the expression. These two little faces challenged me, but they also reminded me why I became a portrait artist in the first place—to preserve something fleeting that a family never wants to forget.

I’ll be honest: this portrait asked for patience—from the family waiting for it and from me as the artist.

Some paintings seem to flow effortlessly. Others need to be set aside, reconsidered, and approached again with fresh eyes. This was one of those paintings.

But I kept returning to these sweet faces because I knew what this portrait would mean to their family. When it was finally finished and framed, I felt something deeper than relief. I felt grateful that, after all these years, I can still use my hands to preserve a little piece of someone’s family story.
