Our team had the pleasure of touring beautiful Downtown Lancaster earlier this week. From local restaurants and boutiques to shared spaces and in-town living, we were so impressed to see the energy and care being poured into both storefronts and public spaces.

We enjoyed some really thoughtful conversations about ways to further strengthen Main Street activation and enhance connectivity to programmed areas. It’s always exciting to see the creativity and passion behind how Ohio communities are shaping places people love to call home.

A special thank you to Amanda Everitt, Executive Director of Destination Downtown Lancaster and President of the Downtown Lancaster Special Improvement District, for the warm welcome and for sharing such an incredible community with us. We are inspired!

We’re excited to share that Neighborhood Strategies has been selected to lead a destination assessment and strategic planning process for Appalachian Ohio, partnering with an incredible team of experts including Corridor Solutions, Heritage Tourism Studio, and Jennifer Aultman, who is representing the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.

Funded through the Appalachian Regional Commission’s READY Grants to Grow Initiative, this project will help shape the future of the region’s visitor economy. The project will align Appalachian Ohio’s organizational direction, strengthen partnerships, and build operational capacity to support tourism as a long-term economic driver for the region. We’re looking forward to building a strong, collaborative roadmap that elevates Appalachian Ohio as a unifying leader and drives lasting impact across its communities!

We had a fantastic time working with Heritage Ohio to kick off their next three-year strategic plan! ✨

We facilitated a full-day board and staff retreat focused on stepping back, asking big questions, and building a clear path forward. From refining the mission to shaping a shared vision and outlining goals for a successful future, it was a collaborative, thoughtful, and energizing day.

It’s always inspiring to be in a room with people who care deeply about their work and are ready to think about what’s next. We’re excited to see where this process leads!

Thank you to Cincinnati Preservation for hosting the retreat at the historic John Hauck House carriage house. It was a perfect setting for a day focused on the future.

We’re excited to see our work featured in The Marietta Times! ✨

Our team recently presented a community-informed redevelopment assessment for the former Harmar Elementary School site, located in the charming City of Marietta. With support from the Mayors' Partnership for Progress at Ohio University, and guided by meaningful and extensive community input, we explored what the site could become and created a roadmap for future conversations and decision-making.

The final concept reflects community interest in flexible green spaces, river access, family-friendly amenities, historic preservation, and opportunities for mixed-use development. We’re thankful for the chance to work alongside the Marietta community and we’re excited about what the future may hold for the property! (Photo by Douglass Huxley)

🎉 Big Milestone for Madison Township!

The Township Trustees adopted a modernized zoning code this month after two years of collaboration, review, and design.

Grounded in the Township’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan, the new code translates community goals into clear, user-friendly regulations that support smart growth and long-term decision-making. The update also aligns with neighboring communities, including the Village of Hanover and Hanover Township, helping strengthen regional coordination.

Neighborhood Strategies was proud to support Madison Township with planning, zoning, and graphic design to help bring this vision to life.

High Street Study Kicks Off in the Village of Hanover!

Neighborhood Strategies, with our partners at American Structurepoint, has officially kicked off the feasibility study for High Street in the Village of Hanover.

To launch the project, we hosted a hands-on workshop where community stakeholders helped imagine what the future corridor could look like. Using a fun “build-a-street” activity, participants mixed and matched features like bike paths, sidewalks, crosswalks, roundabouts, planting medians, and more. Their ideas and feedback will help guide the design work ahead.

Over the next few months, the project team will take a closer look at the corridor and begin shaping early concepts based on what we heard. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and are looking forward to the next steps in creating a safer, more connected, and future-ready High Street for the Village of Hanover. 🌳🚗🚴‍♀️

Big news for the Village of Hanover! 🌳

Hanover has been awarded $99,120 from ODNR’s Division of Forestry (funded by the USDA Forest Service) to create its first-ever Urban Forestry Program—at zero cost to the Village!

The program will guide everything from tree inventories, risk assessments, and removal of hazardous trees from Village property to new tree planting and pruning, helping Hanover grow a healthier, more resilient canopy for years to come.

The Neighborhood Strategies team is proud to have prepared the successful grant application and thrilled to see the Village investing in a greener future. Congratulations, Hanover!

Earlier this week our two principals toured downtown Columbus to learn about the community-based placemaking improvements accomplished over the past two decades by the Capital Crossroads and Discovery District special improvement districts (SID). We are so inspired by their transformational work!
