Η Ισραηλιτική Κοινότητα Ιωαννίνων τιμά τη Διευθύντρια του ΕΜΕ
Είμαστε ιδιαίτερα υπερήφανοι για την τιμητική διάκριση που απονεμήθηκε στη Διευθύντρια του Εβραϊκού Μουσείου Ελλάδος, Ζανέτ Μπαττίνου, στα Γιάννενα, την πόλη όπου γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε.

Η βράβευση πραγματοποιήθηκε μετά το πέρας του Γιόμ Κιπούρ την Δευτέρα 21 Σεπτεμβρίου 2026, στη Ιερά Συναγωγή Καχάλ Καντόσς Γιασσάν του ιστορικού Κάστρου, κατά τη διάρκεια εορταστικού δείπνου σε ξενοδοχείο της πόλης, που παρέθεσε η Κοινότητα. Η εκδήλωση έγινε με την παρουσία αρχών της πόλης, μελών της Ισραηλιτικής Κοινότητας Ιωαννίνων, συμπολιτών και πλήθους ομοθρήσκων επισκεπτών από την Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.

Για τη Ζανέτ Μπαττίνου, η βραδιά είχε ιδιαίτερη συναισθηματική αξία. Αυτή η επιστροφή στην πόλη των παιδικών της χρόνων, οι πολύτιμες αναμνήσεις που μοιράζεται με την οικογένειά της και η αναγνώριση του έργου της στο Εβραϊκό Μουσείο Ελλάδος από την οικεία κοινότητα, δημιούργησαν μια συγκινητική, μοναδική και αξέχαστη εμπειρία.

Η σχέση του ΕΜΕ με τα Γιάννενα είναι άλλωστε ξεχωριστή. Στις συλλογές του φυλάσσονται σημαντικά τεκμήρια από την μακρά ιστορία και τη Ρωμανιώτικη παράδοση της γιαννιώτικης εβραϊκής κοινότητας, διατηρώντας ζωντανή μια πολύτιμη παρακαταθήκη, την οποία το Μουσείο έχει επικοινωνήσει στο ευρύ κοινό με ικανό αριθμό περιοδικών εκθέσεων και εκδόσεων, προγραμμάτων και συνεργασιών, επί σειρά ετών.

Στη βραδιά ήταν αισθητή η απουσία του αείμνηστου Μωυσή Ελισάφ, ενός ανθρώπου που εργάστηκε με πάθος για τη διατήρηση και την ανάδειξη της εβραϊκής μνήμης των Ιωαννίνων.

Ευχαριστούμε θερμά την Ισραηλιτική Κοινότητα Ιωαννίνων για την εξαιρετική τιμή και τη συγκινητική αυτή αναγνώριση. Για εμάς στο Μουσείο, αποτελεί μια ακόμη υπενθύμιση της αξίας του έργου που υπηρετούμε: να διαφυλάσσουμε τη μνήμη, να αναδεικνύουμε την ιστορία και να την μεταδίδουμε στις επόμενες γενιές.

"Just as America has long stood as a beacon for those seeking freedom and refuge around the world, for many in the Jewish community it has been both a safe haven and a home. But, now, Jewish life is being threatened—in New York and in countless towns and cities across America and beyond.

As we celebrate this historic anniversary, let us not only reflect on the past, but renew our commitment to a future which embraces the Judeo-Christian values that have long made America a land of freedom and opportunity.

May the next 250 years continue to uphold these enduring ideals, and ensure that Jewish life remains a vibrant and inseparable part of the American story for generations to come.”

Venezuela’s Jewish community reacted immediately in the wake of the devastating twin earthquakes that struck Caracas last week. They turned a synagogue and Jewish community center into shelters for people who were displaced and couldn’t return to their damaged homes.

Venezuela's Jewish community numbers approximately 3,000–5,000 members today. The large campus of the Hebraica community center, built decades ago when Venezuela’s Jewish population numbered some 30,000, quickly became an emergency shelter space complete with mattresses, medical care, communal meals, and preparations for Shabbat.

“This tragedy has been very hard for the country, [but] we are united and in solidarity in the face of the tragedy,” the Confederation of Jewish Associations of Venezuela (CAIV) said.
