One of these days I hope to sit down and write a much longer blog entry on what is possibly my favorite city in #SEAsia for human quirks, energy, and delicious food options. My friends in the US still laugh at my story of an old Vietnamese woman joining us on the bus at the Cambodian border not speaking a word of English but has somehow managed to smile at me profusely and then hand me her spare gum. Yet another proof that communication of #goodwill need not involve words. #hochiminhcity

Throwback to one of my favorite cities for its modernity and ease of #solotravel: It was in #HongKong that I ate street food, drank delicious coffee, visited a deli that doubled as a record shop, hiked around Victoria Peak, rode the cable car to Tian Tan Buddha, explored an art museum, and swam in a quiet beach all by myself. Of course I also enjoyed the best local food, dim sum, and desserts with my friends. #citystate

Since I last shouted at you, I have done my third cross-country move and am weirdly happily settled in #Seattle, Washington. Have visited many places both within the US and abroad and made more friends than I could have ever hoped for. Reconnected with three of the greatest ones and hope to do the same with many of you!

Here's a snap from Christmas weekend taken at the Cascade Loop Scenic Highway.

Not too long ago, I embarked on a very last-minute trip to Puerto Rico. Here's a peek at the stunning #PuertoRico coastline as greatly enjoyed from Castillo de San Cristobal in #OldSanJuan. The third photo in particular features La Garita del Diablo which translates to The Devil's Guerite (or Sentry Box). Read about its cheesy and somewhat romantic legend here: http://www.prboriken.com/garita.htm

"Guys! You are young, attractive people here in the greatest city on Earth! There are boys and girls in Nobody Cares, Wyoming wishing they could be here. But instead, they are in someone's basement drinking bad malt liquor debating whether they're gonna spend the rest of their Saturday night in the parking lot of the feed store or in some other dude's basement. You owe it to them to rise up and shimmy your lazy asses into something hot. And you go out there and YOU LIVE THE DREAM!" - A spot-on quote on why I try to have as much fun on my weeknights and weekends in NYC for as long as I can.

Also realized today that I have about 10,000+ photos of travels and local exploits that I have to sort through at some point. Here's another attempt to be as up-to-date as possible. :P #Manhattan #Brooklyn

Been quite busy but today's visual treat is the train station clock designed by Dante Ferretti for the film Hugo. Ferretti is an Italian production designer and art director who has collaborated with the likes of Tim Burton and has won three Academy Awards for his work on The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, and Hugo. #MoMA #NYC

Another two of the things I would highly recommend: #BronxPaleAle (so much love for this craft beer) and Justin's #DarkChocolate Peanut Butter Cup. First of all, it's coated with dark chocolate. Secondly, the PB filling is not too sweet and it contains sea salt. Finally, no weird ingredients! Who needs Reese's indeed.

Call it whatever you will, but this recent "snowstorm" has inspired me to get up and at it to take photos before another busy day.

All kidding aside, I didn't grow up in a place with seasons but I assumed that snow was just part of winter. But if you really must name every weather pattern, here are some other Stephen Colbert suggestions: Rain-a-geddon and the Cloudpocalypse.

Since it's Chinese New Year, I would also like to highlight my favorite #xialongbao, the crab soup dumplings from #DiverseDimsum in Flushing. I had not even heard of these things until last year, but I like these even better than siomai, or should I say shaomai? #Flushing #QueensNewYork

While I'll always be a SkyFlakes Classic fan, I love that the European Leibniz All-Butter Biscuit has wide distribution in America. Did you know that American biscuits are something else entirely? They are flaky and soft as opposed to the "crackers" that I grew up with.

The best one I've had yet is the Shrimp & Grits from the aptly named #DenverBiscuitCo in Denver, Colorado. Rock shrimp, Falls Mill grits and pancetta over a biscuit - I still miss it so much.

Spotted this #Askinosie chocolate at the #HighLineHotel Intelligentsia Coffee back in December. This was great for two reasons: 1) #Intelligentsia of Chicago is one of the best coffee roasters in existence. 2) Philippine chocolate is world-class in quality but is severely underrepresented or practically unknown. Google #tablea 'cause you're truly missing out.

The White Cocoa Nibs in particular won the Silver Sofi Outstanding Chocolate Award in 2010. Well done, #Davao.

I'm always late on the upload but this is what I actually did for Halloween last year.

New York’s Village Halloween Parade is an annual holiday parade and street pageant that started in 1974 and attracts 50,000 participants and a world-wide television audience of one hundred million. It was unfortunately cancelled in 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy but came back with a vengeance October 31st of last year. Of course I didn't know this at the time I was ooh-ing and aah-ing over the fantastic costumes and puppets presented by artists and technicians who work throughout the Summer and Fall in many locations around the Greater New York City area, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Boston, Cleveland and the North East. Enjoy.

Woman dies at peace after monthlong farewell party

So many reasons why I love New York, but here's another one for you: Marcy Glanz who was dying from ovarian cancer fulfilled her wish of throwing a month-long farewell party "that mixed frivolity and friendship, laughter and tears." #HumansofNewYork #HONY

NEW YORK — Marcy Glanz had been battling ovarian cancer since early 2011, but in late November, she was given grim news: She had only several weeks to live. To ease the pain of death for herself and her loved ones, Glanz had a dying wish: She essentially wanted a monthlong farewell party that mixed…

Who knows anything about Mormonism? I don't, but here are some photos of the Salt Lake Temple on a chilly night that I wasn't properly dressed for.

#Mural outside the #Korean restaurant I didn't dine at in #Baltimore. It should be noted that Noc Won next door serves the best Korean #seafoodpancake I've had to date. Been enjoying so many great meals in the #EastCoast lately, almost over the horrors of #WestCoast "food" now. A funny thing about Noc Won, they've put up a sign freeing them from any liability should anyone break into your car while you dine there. Still really worth it if it happens to be on the way. #foodadventures

Clinton St. Baking Co. & Restaurant is proof that not all popular things suck. After an amazing albeit oversized brunch at this award-winning place, I ended up giving a bunch of #NYC restaurant and bakery recommendations to young Japanese tourists. Reminded me why I keep a food and travel blog in the first place. Review posted on my site at www.curmudgeonintransit.com. #maplebutter #ClintonStBakingCo

If you've never been, cancel your plans for the weekend and come here instead. At this #izakaya again enjoying their $8 pitchers of #Sapporo and #Kirin, weird music, and lively atmosphere.

FYI, my favorite izakaya in #LosAngeles is #Ebisu and they have an edge on the food department but the vibe at #Kenka in #NYC is much more upbeat.

http://curmudgeonintransit.com/central-park-south-end/ #LocalExploration

This is the first part (South End, September 2013) of a two-part photo/blog post series that I have of Central Park. I personally like the non-touristy North End which reminded me more of other big local parks that I enjoy walking in (Prospect Park of Brooklyn and Van Cortlandt of the Bronx).

Trivia: #CentralPark initially opened in 1857 on 778 acres of land. It now covers 844 acres and is still NOT the largest park in New York City. The largest park award goes to Pelham Bay Park which I have yet to visit.

The world-famous Central Park of #NYC receives around 35 million visitors annually.

Lesson learned that day: Camera phones don't take good landscape photos on a cloudy day. :P
