Its permanent collection contains over two million works, divided among seventeen curatorial departments. The main building, on the eastern edge of Central Park along Manhattan's Museum Mile, is by area one of the world's largest art galleries. A much smaller second location, The Cloisters at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan, contains an extensive collection of art, architecture, and artifacts from Medieval Europe. The permanent collection consists of works of art from classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art. The Met maintains extensive holdings of African, Asian, Oceanian, Byzantine, Indian, and Islamic art. The museum is home to encyclopedic collections of musical instruments, costumes and accessories, as well as antique weapons and armor from around the world. Several notable interiors, ranging from first-century Rome through modern American design, are installed in its galleries. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870. The founders included businessmen and financiers, as well as leading artists and thinkers of the day, who wanted to open a museum to bring art and art education to the American people. It opened on February 20, 1872, and was originally located at 681 Fifth Avenue.

She looks so lovely and made such an effort - you need to lighten up a bit! Here in England this lady would have been applauded.
I am sharing this on your page to bring attention to this matter. I find it horrifying that you would let this happen to a volunteer for your one tours. She spent 3 months coordinating this with the head of the tour. You all should be ashamed.
I was born and lived in NYC for 44 years but, because I moved to New Jersey last year, it will now cost me $30 per person to take a 50 minute train into and out of the city and a $25 admission fee to the museum per person PLUS the price of eating out in NYC. Going to a publicly funded museum is now an absolute luxury I cannot afford to do more than once a year. Why on earth does it cost the museum 300 million bucks a year to operate? That’s my question.
I'm crying right now. My friends from New Jersey can no longer go to the museum with me. It's too expensive to go. The cost change just makes it out go range for everyone to visit. This is a tragedy beyond all tragedies. Art should be for everyone, not just the rich!

When I still lived in NY, I loved visiting all the great museums. I especially enjoyed the MOMA and of course the Met. As an artist and calligrapher, it was wonderful having so much to see in all areas of art!
