Our hearts are with those impacted by Hurricane Ida. Our gratitude with the soldiers, veterans, and military families who served and sacrificed for so many years. And our prayers for physical strength and emotional resilience are with the healthcare heroes still on the frontline battle against Covid. With all that is going on in the world, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this milestone in the 18-year history of New York Says Thank You Foundation. Josh Garcia is our new leader. Be strong and courageous my brother as you help keep alive the Spirit of 9/12. You will succeed. LOVE ALWAYS WINS

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2011, we had the privilege of extending to the family of Dr. King, and hundreds of newly sworn-in citizens of the United States who had just completed their naturalization ceremony at the MLK Center in Atlanta, the historic opportunity of placing a stitch in The National 9/11 Flag. May we all do things big and small, today and every day, to strengthen our national and social fabric.

On December 7, 2010, a mother and father who lost their son in Afghanistan solemnly placed a stitch in the Hawaii patch of The National Flag aboard the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor. While Carolyn Deters placed the needle and thread in their hands, FDNY firefighter Brian Fitzpatrick stood Honor Guard for this sacred moment of remembrance and healing. Never forget the sacrifice of so many through the generations who have given their all to secure our freedom from tyranny.

On this Veterans' Day we acknowledge the service and sacrifice of all our military veterans and their families who have secured our freedoms with their commitment to our Nation through the generations and given us all the opportunity to choose our destiny. We owe you a debt that cannot be repaid other than through living up to the highest ideals of our civic responsibility and being there for one another just as you were there for us.

The greatest compliment ever.

Charlie's life is greatly changed because of an unforgettable young lady named Ann who died on Sept. 11 in Tower One of the World Trade Center, where she was working on the 104th floor.

Ann's Bucket List was found on her laptop after her death and was published in 2006 in the New York Times. Item #7 on her Bucket List was "Build a House in North Dakota". Spearheaded by the The New York Says Thank You Foundation, her home was built and is lovingly named "Annie's House". It's not just a building and it's much more than a ski chalet. Annie's House is built at Bottineau Winter Park where Annie herself skied.

In this picture of Charlie, you can see a little bit of Annie's House behind him. It is because of this place that Charlie learned to ski. It is because of this place that Charlie has a lifelong recreation that he enjoys and has led to family vacations which we can all enjoy. This place has been home to the ND Winter Special Olympics where Charlie has won medals and had some of his proudest moments. Annie's House includes an Adaptive Ski program. Annie's House Adaptive Recreation Program When we utilized this program, Charlie's instructors happened to be Dan and Anne M. Anne M happened to be a childhood friend of Charlie's mom and a lifelong friend of Ann Nelson. We were in great hands. Charlie learned how to ski independently before the day was done.

We know many people who knew Ann much better than we did. We know they still miss her and this day hurts. The world is a better place because she was in it.

Dear friends of New York Says Thank You Foundation: For over 16 years, NYSTY has worked to turn the worst day in modern American history into something positive by focusing on the kindness, compassion, and volunteer spirit of 9/12. In doing so, we have learned the importance of empowering survivors to heal by helping others. And most of all, we have learned first hand the importance of bringing people together to help survivors of natural disasters and human-caused tragedies to heal by reminding them they are not alone. We did this through our 9/11 Anniversary barn-raising program, through the restoration of The National 9/11 Flag, through our 9/12 Generation citizenship education project, and for 13 years, through our Stars of HOPE healing arts program. Every day, children of all ages, are creating DIGITAL HOPE through our Stars of HOPE paper template as a way to send healing love and encouragement to all the people on the front lines of this global battle against the COVID-19 virus. You can create hope too. Simply go to Stars of HOPE, download the paper star template pinned to the top of the page, print it, design your star, and post an image to social media. We can beat this. With Love. With Hope. With Unity.

To the whole NYSTY family and especially those who were with us in North Dakota, please say a prayer for Gary Nelson and his wife Jenette and their extended family and friends as Gary nears the finish line of a life well lived. I am sure Annie is waiting for him with open arms and waiting to shoot another game of pool together. What an extraordinary family who have given so much to the world. Our prayers are with Gary and Jenette every second of the way. - Jeff

To all our friends and family and supporters of New York Says Thank You Foundation: This year, we will be participating in a very special remembrance of 9/11 at Annie’s House in Bottineau, North Dakota. The community will Be gathering at Annie’s House on Sunday September 8 in order to do a Reading of the Names, the solemn ceremony where the nearly 3,000 names are read out loud to honor the memories of all the men, women, children, and first responders killed on September 11, 2001. The community will also be painting Stars of HOPE to create more hope in our world. General information

Started in 2003 at the suggestion of a 5-year-old boy, The New York Says Thank You Foundation has grown into one of the Nation’s leading organizations to transform the 9/11 Anniversary into a positive, hands-on platform for national volunteer service. Each year on the 9/11 Anniversary, The New York Says Thank You Foundation sends hundreds of volunteers from New York along with disaster survivors from around the country to help rebuild communities around the United States recovering from disaster. It’s our way of saying “Thank You” for all the love and support Americans from across the country extended to New Yorkers in the days, weeks, and months following September 11. The secret to our growing “Pay It Forward” movement is very simple: What we do is about 9/12.
