We also provide a theater where you can view rare films of Enrico Caruso. I look forward to meeting you personally at the Museum! Caruso was the first recording star in history, who sold more than a million records with his 1902 recording of 'Vesti le gubba' from 'Pagliacci' (Clowns) by 'Leoncavallo'. His voice had a combination of the full baritone-like character with the smooth and brilliant ten

or qualities. His range was broadened into baritone at the expense of the higher tenor notes, Caruso never sang the high C, and often transposed in order to avoid it. He was a master of interpretation, having a rare gift of portamento and legato, and a superior command of phrasing. His legendary 1904 Victor recording of 'Una furtiva lagrima', by Gaetano Donizetti is used in many film soundtracks. History
The idea for the Enrico Caruso Museum began when Everisto Mancusi came to America from Italy in 1920 and settled in Brooklyn, New York. He had a great love for music, and owned a collection of Enrico Caruso Victor records numbering more than seventy. As his love for Italian opera grew so did his collection – to more than two hundred records. His son, Aldo Mancusi, whose love and admiration of Caruso grew as a result of his father’s collection, acquired these records. The title Cavaliere Ufficiale was an honor given to Aldo Mancusi for the creation of the Museum. Active in the Italian community for many years, he has devoted his most of his time and energy to establishing and promoting the museum in honor of the world’s greatest tenor. In 1990, the museum was officially opened to the public with the support of Commendatore Michael Sisca, a prominent publisher of the Italian magazine La Follia Di New York. Thousands of people have enjoyed visiting the museum to see the memorabilia including rare family photos of the Caruso family, books, records, letters, personal items, caricatures and the death mask of Enrico Caruso. A popular attraction in the museum is the 20 seat mini theater, with chairs and décor from the old Metropolitan Opera donated by famed soprano Licia Albanese. Additionally, Enrico Aloi and Joseph Puglisi, friends and biographers of the great soprano Rosa Ponselle contributed wood carvings from the balcony of the old Met. There are also films of Caruso’s life and times including his silent film My Cousin where he plays a dual role. These items were obtained through donations as well as purchases for display by the museum. Caruso family members, have also visited the museum, a prestigious honor for the Enrico Caruso Museum of America. Uff. Aldo Mancusi was donated to create the Enrico Caruso Museum of America. The museum is also registered since 1995 with the New York State Education Department.

Rest in Peace Commandatore Aldo Mancusi.

Commendatore Aldo Mancusi was the founder, curator, and President of the Enrico Caruso Museum of America. He dedicated much of his life to enlightening us to the wonder of Enrico Caruso and in doing has kept alive the voice and life of the greatest tenor in the world. Aldo’s ability and desire to share his passion for Caruso came from the love he experienced as the child of wonderful immigrant parents and the love of a very patient and participating wife, Lisa. Together they opened the Museum in their home to hundreds of visitors sharing Caruso’s recordings and artifacts with thousands more during exhibitions here and in Italy. Aldo’s well-regarded reputation came from keeping Caruso’s voice and fame ever-present in our modern world; but also from his intelligence, perseverance, humor and Neapolitan spirit. His commitment to promoting Caruso and the Museum has given us many years of cultural edification. Aldo also lectured at many prestigious locations including Fordham University, Brooklyn College, Hofstra University, Montclair State University, the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò at NYU, Steinway Hall, Casa Belvedere, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, Brooklyn Borough Hall and for many Cultural Organizations. Aldo and the Museum have been featured in newspaper and magazine articles and in TV documentaries both here and abroad. In addition, he traveled to Italy twelve times lecturing and exhibiting the Caruso collection. In 2015, the Italian Government awarded Aldo the title of “Commendatore” something he then shared with his hero, Enrico Caruso. Through his endeavors, he enlightened many in all walks of life, and continued to do so because of the joy it gave to him. Dear Aldo, may God grant you eternal and musical peace!

Joyce DiDonato’s repertoire spans five centuries and through her operatic career, she has grown from the mischievous or melancholy ingénue (Rosina, Cendrillon, and Cenerentola) to tragic Queen (Maria Stuarda, Semiramide, and Didon), and from the hormonal teenage boy (Cherubino and Sesto) to gallant medieval prince (Ariodante and Romeo). Her recent appearances include her stage debut as Didon in Berlioz’s epic Les Troyens in Vienna, a highly praised tour, recording, and stage debut as the title role in Handel’s Agrippina: and concert performances of more Berlioz (Les Nuits d’été) with Sir Antonio Pappano and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States at the BBC Proms. Critically acclaimed recitals of Schubert’s monumental Winterreise with Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the piano mark a true artistic arrival point. Over the past five years she has heightened audiences’ engagement with Baroque music through themed programmes of arias – ‘Drama Queens’, ‘Stella di Napoli’ and, especially, a 5-continent tour of ‘In War and Peace’, which she produced “to steer conversation and discourse towards peace through the power of harmony found in music and the concert hall”. This project has reached over 2.3 million viewers globally.
