LES History Month Specials for Foursquare Users

We are glad to have more small businesses participate in more ways than one for LES History Month! The local deli, gift shop, hardware store, etc around the corner are every bit part of our neighborhood's cultural fabric -- just walking through the door of a store can bring on a rush of memories that go untold but are equally important to place-making!

This year, we have a new partnership with Foursquare for participating businesses that might like to offer a special deal in the name of LES History Month! Plan your weekend shopping around some of these stores or search for #leshistorymonth on the Foursquare app: https://foursquare.com/p/lower-east-side-partnership/142262535/list/les-history-month-specials-for-foursquare-users

Last year's LES Community Hero Paul Garrin with WiFi NY is launching Solarize LES, an effort to make solar energy a reality in the Lower East Side.

Join them for a press conference TOMORROW at La Plaza Cultural Community Garden from 12pm-1pm to learn more about what makes this such a pioneering endeavor! HAPPY LOWER EAST SIDE HISTORY MONTH! Don't let the rain dampen your spirits and come out to enjoy the neighborhood:

From 2-4pm, type up your memories with Typewritten Tales 2016! Sundays in May at 6th St & Ave B Community Garden (there's a little stage with roof!). For bonus points, guest writers Hettie Jones, Royal Young, Barbara Henning, will also be on site.

Later in the afternoon, you can still get tickets to Sleeping Beauty & the Beast at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club and learn about two eras of L.E.S. activist herstory separated by 100 years by dance group Ballez! Tickets: lamama.org/ballez

#LESStories waits for no weather and we want to hear your #LESmonth story!

Sleeping Beauty & the Beast is a two-act Ballez that celebrates LGBTQ stories and radically, queerly re-imagines another tale from the ballet canon.
