The program consists of artists who have been included in significant exhibitions worldwide, many of whom presented their first solo show at the gallery. In addition to its continuous exhibition schedule, the gallery presents organized shows curated in house or by guest curators. Group and two-person programming grounds our interest in supporting the production of vital art practices from a divers

e range of international artists. We regularly produce artist catalogues and monographs as a generative means to distribute ideas.

We are more than pleased to announce installation images for Erica Mao’s ‘Shelter’ which is exhibiting in this year’s NADA House on Governors Island! Mao, who works in a variety of media from drawing, to painting, to sculpture, is presenting new freestanding and wall hanging ceramic sculptures. Spanning the front porch and the entryway, the ceramic works reflect on the regional mythologies that inhabit Governors Island and reimagine the land and our relationship to it.

Friends in Bulgaria! Our very own Pam Lins has some artwork in the 25th Gabrovo Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art. This year’s theme is ‘Economy of Means’ and is dedicated to environmental and economic issues, such as “dwindling natural resources and the rapidly shrinking margin of error in which we find ourselves operating as a civilization facing a social and environmental catastrophe.” The exhibition will be on view until September 30, 2022.

We are pleased to announce that our show “Extra Terrestrial” with Amy Bravo, Lauren Clark, Sofia del Mar Collins, Sacha Ingber, Tyler Lafreniere, Andrea McGinty, Mira Putnam, Shani Strand, and Zenobia opens on June 25. The opening reception will be held that Saturday, June 25 from 6-8pm at the gallery.

Though diverse in their respective processes and points of view, the exhibition highlights mutual interests in our inhabited earth and the conditions of our material existence. The included artists focus on representations of architecture, proximal nature, and domestic spaces, and utilize earthly materials like clay, textiles, or found personal and household objects.

We are more than pleased to announce that “Serenade” featuring Joshua Petker opens on June 25! The opening reception will be held that Saturday, June 25 from 6-8pm at the gallery.

The artist incorporates elements from a range of visual references —  including scenes from historical European paintings and cartoonish figures from mid-century children’s books of fairy tales —  to create layered, ghostly paintings that appear to contain several overlapping images at once or, possibly, multiple planes of perception. This strategy produces a rich visual dissonance that is mysteriously alluring: the figures themselves are reminiscent of Renaissance archetypes such as troubadours and courtesans, while the fractured method of their representation draws significantly on the influence of Cubism and the works of French painter Francis Picabia in particular.

Sending a big congratulations to Curtis Talwst Santiago on his solo exhibition “Pay de Devil - Brang! Brang! - Pay de Devil” at the Art Gallery of Alberta! The show is curated by Lindsey Sharman and is open until August 29th. If you’re in Edmonton, show some love.

“This exhibition is for Curtis Santiago’s parents and for all the parents of the diaspora whose traditions live on in their children. ‘Pay de Devil - Brang! Brang! - Pay de Devil’ documents the stories about Trinidadian carnival that Santiago grew up with. This exhibition celebrates the processions, stories and characters of J’ouvert, the start of carnival. During this parade, bodies and faces are painted, and revellers dress up as devil characters or Jab Jabs who can be simultaneously frightening, joyous, antagonistic, and dangerous. J’ouvert and this exhibition are a celebration of ancestors and represent a liberation from the constraints of the past.”

Exhibition artwork and installation images coming soon! For more information, click the link in our bio.

05/17/2022

We are pleased to announce that Julia Weist’s “Governing Body” will be opening this Thursday on May 19 in our Upstairs Gallery! The reception will be held from 6-8pm this Thursday.

“Governing Body”, a solo exhibition spanning several bodies of work by artist Julia Weist which focus on the relationship between artists and government. Weist’s practice is defined by a uniquely recursive approach in which artworks filter through the same systems they foreground as subjects. Throughout the included photographs, prints, paintings and installations Weist positions herself as both a researcher of and participant in the infrastructure of governance and circulation. Her resulting projects achieve an uncanny intimacy with contexts typically considered opaque despite their civic nature.

We can’t wait to see you!

We are pleased to announce that our show “Controlled Chaos” with Strauss Bourque-LaFrance, Andrea Marie Breiling, Joseph Hart, Liam Everett, Reginald Madison, and Uman opens this Thursday on May 19. The opening reception will be held this Thursday from 6-8pm at the gallery.

While all art-making requires degrees of preparation and deliberation, these artists pursue deeply intuitive processes in which feeling and improvisation are not stymied but rather embraced. Employing gesture, color, movement, and references to poetry, music, and cultural heritage, these artists fashion a feast for the senses, pushing the storied lineage of abstract painting in exciting and inventive new directions.

We look forward to seeing you!

Rachel Uffner Gallery is thrilled to announce Sheree Hovsepian's participation in the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, The Milk of Dreams, curated by Cecilia Alemani and organized by La Biennale di Venezia chaired by Roberto Cicutto.

The Giardini, Central Pavilion, Venice
April 23 - November 27, 2022

Hovsepian has become known for her assemblages which explore the materiality and performative nature of photography, as well as language, time, and gesture. For the Biennale, Hovsepian has created seven new works which combine silver gelatin prints and tactile materials. Characterized by their inherent intimacy, these works demonstrate Hovsepian's ongoing interest in the complexities of identity and the "politics of embodiment and looking".
