Posted • Thanks to for including my work in “Shifting Landscapes”.

My aerial photos are made throughout the United States. This land can have multiple meanings based on perspective. Human activity incessantly modifies the terrain. Even though the history of a place does not change, it can be revealed in layers of shifting demographics, politics and economic forces.

In Wiggins, MS the criss-crossed railroad tracks remind me of a faded confederate flag and Shermans’s march to the sea in 1864 when his army destroyed much of the southern infrastructure. The green energy economy marches across the land from a solar energy center in FL to the weblike lines of an electrical relay station in Suburban, MD, while a plywood factory ironically(?) close to DeSoto national forest consumes natural resources and nudges markets forward.

Many thanks to Giovanna and .khamenehzadeh

Posted • Dropped in on 2 pop-up exhibits in Manhattan, just a few blocks from each other. I loved James Shsieh’s colorful, robust and imaginative textiles and soft sculpture at the Arts on the Avenue pop-up. Such a delight! It’s a working studio as well as a gallery space.

Then, the Portal Shifting Landscapes, a group show, had some wonderful site-specific works, including large-scale sculptures and small works. Very cool work that brought me back to the summer fairs on Governors Island.

Go see these shows before they close!

Portal’s pop-up exhibition Shifting Landscapes can be interpreted in a variety of ways: literal, ecological, personal, political, sociological. To this last category, as 4heads looks to new horizons after having headquartered on Governors Island as an exhibition home for 15 years, the idea of a pop-up itself signifies a state of transition and a shifting space.

It’s been radio silence here since our amazing year last year because, well, we were not invited back to Governors Island for the first time since we presented our first art fair back in 2008.

We are deeply saddened by this decision and feel the loss for the artists and the community that we were a huge part of.

We are not giving up our desire to give artists free exhibition space!

As crushed as we are, we are New Yorkers and will keep fighting! 💪💪💪💪❤️

In 2008, a group of artists suggested Governors Island host an art fair. Now, 15 years later, Portal run by 4heads, is getting the boot.
