Experts call for regulation after latest botched art restoration in Spain

So much of what we often have to do is repair damage from previous treatments gone wrong. This article highlights the importance of a well trained professional. María Borja, Acre’s vice-president, is correct when she says that these mishaps are “unfortunately far more common than you might think” and that “we only find out about them when people report them to the press or on social media, but there are numerous situations when works are undertaken by people who aren’t trained.” @artcare always strives for museum quality conservation and restoration treatments. We are proud of our diverse, knowledgeable, and talented team of well trained professionals. #themoreyouknow

ArtCare Conservation treated this work by @faithringgold some years ago when it was on loan in Miami and heading to Spain to hang with Picasso's Guernica. With all that is transpiring, we are proud to have saved this piece of #Americanhistory and to see it displayed at the new MOMA

The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art

In the 1990's ArtCare Conservation directed the team that conserved the chapel. It was a challenging and thrilling project, involving all types of conservation specialists and lots of support from the Morse Museum staff. Visit Winter Park, FL and check it out!

Watch the changing light of the Tiffany Chapel here. A cycle of dimming and brightening in Louis Comfort Tiffany’s extraordinary interior from the 1893 Chicago world’s fair transports 21st-century visitors back to when electrical illumination was being realized. These low light levels, suggestive of the 19th century, alternate with a bright view so that all can marvel at each and every luminous mosaic and marble element in the decades to come. https://buff.ly/2FWyzUL

The Ringling

Our biggest project this year! It's been great working with the team at the Ringling Museum. Thanks to the Getty Foundation.

One of The Ringling's most impressive works is returning to view for the first time in over 60 years! "Emperor Justinian" by Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant is currently undergoing the final stages of conservation, before it is installed in Gallery 21 this January. Find out more http://bit.ly/ConservingEJ

In 2019, The Ringling was awarded the Conserving Canvas grant from The Getty Foundation to support the cost of treatment of the 1886 painting "Emperor Justinian" by Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant (French, 1845-1902). The grant also supported training residencies for several emerging and mid-career painting conservators to work on the project. Conservation began in July 2019 at ArtCare Miami, one of the premier art conservation centers in the country, and will be completed in January 2020.

Over the last month Oliver in our Miami studio has been leading workshops on lining paintings. Wonderful to have mid-career conservators from all over learning and sharing information: Detroit Art Institute, Ringling Museum, Metropolitan Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal , VMFA Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Universite Externado de Columbia and teachers from the NYU, Buffalo, and Queens graduate conservation programs. Special thanks to the Getty for funding!

The new MoMA shows what the future of art’s history could be

We treated this amazing Faith Ringold painting when it was on loan to PAMM in Miami. She honored us with a visit to our NYC studio to talk about her work and her choices of materials.

As the museum attempts to open out art history with impressive renovations and a rehang of its permanent collection, one writer asks if it’s achieved what was promised

Botticelli & Ghirlandaio: Coronation of the Virgin

The Ghirladaio/Botticelli is safely back at the Bass Museum....here's the video that was made for the Bank of America. https-//vimeo.com/346433640

The 'Coronation of the Virgin' (c. 1492) is the only known collaborative composition between Florentine Renaissance masters Sandro Botticelli (1444/45-1510)…

We just sent this fascinating work back to the Morse Museum in Winter Park...We found another painting beneath Tiffany's sketch for the Entombment......from their Newsletter....

"Recent Donation Offers Insights into the Entombment Window and Tiffany’s Art
A recently donated oil-on-board study of the Entombment window from Dorothy Schmiderer Baker—Louis Comfort Tiffany’s great-granddaughter—opens new areas of study in Louis Comfort Tiffany’s artistic life. Not only has it enriched the Museum’s understanding of the complicated process by which the Entombment window was produced, but initial inspection hinted at possible hidden figures beneath the Entombment scene. Suspicions were confirmed when the panel was sent to ArtCare Conservation in Miami for conservation. With the help of infrared technology, we hope to better see the underpainting signed by Tiffany. This summer the panel will be added to the series of paintings and leaded-glass objects that form the process study for the Entombment window on exhibition in the Museum outside the Chapel.

This oil-on-board study of the Entombment window, a recent gift, sheds new light on Tiffany’s creative process. This oil-on-board study of the Entombment window, a recent gift, sheds new light on Tiffany’s creative process."
