August Belmont, Jr. - NYAC president in 1893 - founded the Interborough Rapid Transit Company in 1902, which built and operated New York City’s first underground subway.

To seek respite from the invariably overcrowded trains, Belmont commissioned the construction of a private subway car in 1905. The Mineola, as Belmont named it, came equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and study.

The Tiffany glass, gilt ceiling and white coat wait service added to the opulence of the Mineola, believed to be the first and only private subway car in the world. “A private railroad car is not an acquired taste,” wrote Eleanor Robson, Belmont’s wife. “One takes to it immediately.”

New York City’s subway crisis started with Robert Moses

An article I worked on I think those who are having commuting problems will find interesting.

The decline of New York City’s subway system isn’t a new thing—and if you go back far enough, you see how the influential city planner was to blame.

We took the Gilded Age walking tour with Kevin Draper this past weekend (March 19) and it was great! He paced the walking to suit my wife who has a bad back, he was very informative and welcomed questions every step of the way. He even volunteered to take pictures of us.

We look forward to the next time.
Kew gardens Queens should be seen by people so that they can decide about moving into kew gardens one of the nicest and safest neighborhoods in all of our city
I would love to take a tour to experience New York’s exciting history. I hope all the tour guides are safe inside due to the Covid-19 outbreak. I recently just subscribed to a movie streaming platform called Film Festival Flix, which has been keeping me entertained while I sit at home all day. I just watched the trailer for Russian Ark, which is shot from an unseen narrator's point of view as he explores and travels through time at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Russian Ark was also shot in one single take, which makes the film even more intriguing to watch. I definitely would recommend subscribing to Film Festival Flix because this is the best time to watch films you have never seen before.
