What an honor it is to be able to include the sculptural work by the legendary Ray Smith.
Raised in Central Mexico, voyaged to NYC as a young artist to work alongside other boundary-pushing artists such as Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf. His work is featured in the collections and exhibition histories of institutions such as the Whitney Museum and The Met, as well as the Centre Pompidou in Paris among others.

Smith's vibrant paintings and sculptures portray the themes rooted in his bi-cultural American and his Mexican heritage. His works often feature contorted and metamorphic figures, embodying a hybrid style influenced by traditional Mexican practitioners, as well as the artistic luminaries from the European canon such as Picasso and the Surrealists.

Francesca Schwartz’s stunning textural abstractions and bone sculptures give a new layer of conceptual dimension.

The New York-based artist and psychoanalyst’s work rests on her fascination with the contents and materials that make up the body. Initially working in bone, her work has expanded to include paint, wax, metal, found objects and textiles, finding expression in collage and assembled works.

Her art-making addresses many of the same questions confronted in her psychology practice, finding meaning through the articulation of the unconscious and the necessary preoccupation with the body, its disappearance, life's beginnings and death.

In addition to co-curating “Homage” alongside Elizabeth Chatham of Azure Arts, Abidemi Olowonira is one of the exhibition’s 5 featured artists in Red Hook’s newest alternative creative space, .space

Nigerian-born and Brooklyn-based, work has been shown around the world including Dubai and The Guangzhou Museum of Fine Arts, in China, and in 2019 was awarded the Elle Decor Designer of the Year Award for his collaboration with luxury rug maker

Through his practice, the artist explores the nuances of oral histories and mythologies carried down through generations.

Blurring boundaries between visual art and functional design while largely utilizing recycled hides, he reveres the material as a vessel for once a living being, honoring its spirit it once contained throughout his process. He places shapes sporadically resulting in arrays of voids that he believes symbolize portal to a world unknown and augmented narrative.

Olowonira also uses his work to navigate cultural complexity such as heritage, and displacement. He is currently investigating the dynamically complex Yoruba culture and its migration and influences in the diaspora.

You may view his textural work in person at Centre Space (150 Centre Street, Brooklyn) every weekend (12-5pm) thru June and by appointment.

Giving new life to discarded glass, steel, trash, and construction waste, Fruin’s works, such as his life-size mosaic houses, billboards, and flags, have become iconic architectural-scale outdoor installations around the world but especially here in NYC as he pays homage to the architectural and cultural history of urban environments. If you’ve ever been to Dumbo, you’ve probably seen his kaleidoscopic “Watertower” (last slide).

It’s a weird International Women’s Day in the arts, but I’m still feeling the love.

I want to express my immense gratitude to those other fierce women to whom I look up, in whom I trust to be there when I’m not feeling my strongest and my whom I feel most seen, including my beautiful mother who I choose to believe can still see me from wherever she is.

In addition to these women, a hugeee shout out to my current project partner and brilliant artist who has become a great friend, confidant and mentor. The patience this man has in dealing with my obsessive working patterns is unparalleled, which is why we will undoubtedly go far together. My second non woman thanks goes to my four legged child, my best friend, my everything—Mischa.

The success of any one person is not accomplished over night and is not accomplished alone. is one day a year wherein we give thanks and praise to the women who shape our lives and the world around us. But for women who are or will be those influencers, who maintain steadfast visions of change for the better, or those who seek to just give love—let’s also celebrate the male and non human figures who help us along the way.

Angel Cotray (), part of Azure Arts’ upcoming “Untethered: An Experience of Free Association,” is a Bronx-based painter who focuses on the human experience as a means to connect to others. After graduating from university, Angel focused on figurative painting as a way to cope the isolation that quarantine brought along.

“Art is my therapy. Ultimately, I hope to create a sense of community with my audience— as though I’m helping people identify pieces of their own intrapersonal relationships, by painting my vulnerabilities.”
