Neal Shoemaker started Harlem Heritage Tours in 1998 with the intention of exposing the truth about the culture of Harlem. The seeds of change had been planted decades before, but it seemed that during the late 1990's is when change started to become visible in the form of constant construction along blocks in Harlem that were long neglected. It was at this time that Harlem Heritage Tours was born and all wanted, and still request authentic experiences when they travel to Harlem. We have hosted people from all over world with the constant goal of providing guests with experiences that reflect the best of Harlem's past and future. Nothing is more thrilling than creating and providing experiences that transport our guests back into Harlem yesteryears. Over the last 14 years we have experienced the initial anticipation of what's to come and the fear that Harlem's heritage will be lost. As time passes what we are seeing is that there is a growing movement focused on preserving and capitalizing on Harlem's heritage. In 2007 we opened the Harlem Heritage Tourism and Cultural Center with the sole purpose of celebrating Harlem's history.

Mission: To use the industry of tourism to preserve Harlem's heritage and contribute to the development of the local economy.

On this day 53 years ago, October 2nd, 1967 Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, appointed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson.
As Chief Counsel for the NAACP, Thurgood Marshall won several landmark cases, notably the historic 1954 Brown v. Board of Education, essentially ending legal segregation in public facilities and accommodations - this America.
On the high court for 24 years, all along living in Harlem, Thurgood Marshall continued to challenge disrimatiotion, he would often say "do what you think is right and let the law catch up"
On days like today, the Harlem Heritage Tourism and Cultural Center remembers heros like Thurgood Marshall.

One of the most brilliant legal minds of the 20th Century was born on this day 83 years ago, October 20th 1937.

Inspired by Thurgood Marshall and the legal victory that Marshall won in Brown v. Board of Education, Cochran decided to dedicate his life to practicing law,. Cochran would often say that he read all he could about Thurgood Marshall and was impressed by his ability to use the law to change society.

Although known as a go to layer for the rich, he often was a successful advocate for minorities police brutality and civil rights case. The Harlem Heritage Tourism and Cultural Center, will never forget the legacy of Johnny Cochran.
